Introduction
Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL) is the second largest

gas producer in the country.

Discovered the first gas field of the country at Haripur in
Sylhet in 1955.
Bangladesh has many Gas fields but has only one Oil
field (Well-7 at Haripur).
Total recoverable gas reserve of Haripur field is 479 bcf
and Oil reserves are estimated at 40 Mbbl,

Study area
Haripur Gas Field ,known as Sylhet gas field, is located

at Haripur northeast of Sylhet City.

Gowinghat Upazila is in the North, Golapgonj

Pourashava is in the southeast, Beanibazar in the east and

Biswanath in the west of Haripur Gas field.
It covers about

190sq.km (15.5 km x 12 km)

Background of the
study
Reservoir Characterization means the analysis of

petrophysical characteristics of reservoir rock.

The first aim of reservoir characterization is to produce a

geological model that honours the available data and can

be used to predict the distribution of porosity,
permeability, and fluids throughout the field.
Key properties are- lithology, porosity, permeability,

etc.

Background of the study(cont.)

Lithology describes what type of rock it is.
Porosity () is the percentage of pore volume or void

space, or that volume within rock that can contain fluids.

Permeability is the ability, or measurement of a rock's

ability, to transmit fluids, typically measured in darcies or

millidarcies.

Objectives of the
study
Figure out three dimensional model for entire gas field
Figure out lithology, porosity and permeability of the gas

field
Find out major discontinuities (either lithological or
diagenetic)within the reservoir rock
Find out the causes for formation of different petroleum
substances within a single reservoir
Show some guide line for enhancing gas/oil recovery
from the targeted area

Methodology
Reservoir characterization involves the integration of a vast

amount of data from seismic surveys, from geophysical well

logs, and from geological samples.
