Gloves
Used when there be contact with the

bloodstream or tissue under the skin


( surgical procedures or implants,
pelvic exams for women in labor,
minor / major surgery.
These gloves are the most expensive
kind.
Use them only when necessary

Single Use Examination


Gloves
Used when there will be contact with

intact mucous membrane ( IV


insertion, pelvic examination etc.) or
where the primary purpose is to
reduce the risk that the provider will
be expose to blood or other body
fluids ( when drawing blood).
Usually made of latex or vinyl and
are supplied in box or individual pack.
These gloves are clean but not
sterile.

Utility or Heavy Duty


Household Gloves
Used for handling contaminated

instruments and soiled linen.


Used for medical or chemical waste
Used for performing housekeeping
activities
These gloves are reusable after
nosing and washing.

Purpose
1. To prevent patients with impaired

resistance from becoming infected.


2. To prevent microorganisms from
entering the wound.
3. To provide sterile working field for
dressing changes.
4. To protect members of the health
team.

Putting on Sterile Gloves and Removing Soiled Gloves:

glove.

gloved hand outward.
Place the fingers of the
gloved hand inside the cuff
of the remaining glove. Lift
it from the wrapper, taking
care not to touch anything
with the gloves or hands.

12. Carefully insert nondominant hand into


glove. Pull the glove on,
taking care that the skin
does not touch any of the
outer surfaces of the
gloves.

to grasp the opposite
glove near cuff end on
the outside exposed
area. Remove it by
pulling it off, inverting it
as it is pulled, keeping
the contaminated area
on the inside. Hold the
removed glove in the
remaining gloved hand.

17. Slide fingers of
ungloved hand between
the remaining glove and
the wrist. Take care to
avoid touching the outer
surface of the glove.
Remove it by pulling it
