SELECTION TOOLS
Move TOOL
Selection tools are used to select all or any part of a
picture to perform cut, copy, edit, or retouching
operations . Which is Easy To use. The move tool simply
lets you move objects in a given layer around the
Photoshop canvas. To use it, click anywhere on the
canvas and drag. As you drag, the Photoshop layer will
move with your mouse.
MARQUEE TOOLS
LASSO TOOL
POLYGONAL
LASSO TOOL
The "polygonal lasso" tool will draw only straight lines, which makes it an ideal choice
for images with many straight lines. Unlike the regular "lasso" tool, the user must
continually click around the image to outline the shape. To complete the selection, the
user must connect the end point to the starting point just like the regular lasso tool
MAGNETIC
TOOL
Magnetic lasso" tool is considered the smart tool. It can do the same as the other two,
but it can also detect the edges of an image once the user selects a starting point. It
detects by examining the color pixels as the cursor move over the desired area. A pixel
s the smallest element in an image. Closing the selection is the same as the other two,
which should also should display the "marching ants" once the selection has been
closed
QUICK
SELECTION TOOL
The magic wand tool selects areas based on pixels of similar values. One click will select all neighboring pixels of similar
value within a tolerance level set by the user. If the eyedropper tool is selected in the options bar, then the magic wand
can determine the value needed to evaluate the pixels; this is based on the sample size setting in the eyedropper tool.
This tool is inferior to the quick selection tool which works much the same but with much better results and more
intuitive controls. The user must decide what settings to use or if the image is right for this tool.
CROP TOOL
Click and drag the tool over the part of the image
that you want to keep. Resize the selected area
dragging the squares at the sides and corners
ALTERATION
TOOLS
SPOT HEALING
BRUSH TOOL
The Spot Healing Brush tool quickly removes blemishes and other imperfections
from photos. It paints with sampled pixels from an image or pattern and matches the
texture, lighting, transparency, and shading of the sampled pixels to the pixels being
healed. Unlike the Clone Stamp tool, the Spot Healing Brush doesnt require you to
specify a sample spot. It automatically samples from around the retouched area.
HEALING
BRUSH TOOL
The patch tool uses the same complex algorithm as the healing brush to carry out
its blend calculations, but the patch tool works with selection-defined areas instead
of a brush. When the patch tool is selected, it initially operates in a lasso selection
mode that can be used to define the area to patch from or patch to

BRUSH TOOL
You can save a set of brush options as a preset so you can
quickly access brush characteristics you use frequently.
Photoshop includes several sample brush presets. You can
start with these presets and modify them to produce new
effects. Many original brush presets are available for
download on the web.
You can quickly choose presets from the Brush Preset picker
in the options bar, which lets you temporarily modify the size
and hardness of a brush preset.
Save tool presets when you want to store customized brush
tip characteristics along with settings
PENCIL TOOL
The Pencil tool is exactly what its name implies...a pencil.
The Pencil tool is limited to hard brush tips of any size or
shape, and creates freeform lines using the current
foreground color. In fact, the major difference between the
Pencil and Brush tools is the Pencil tools inability to draw
anythingbuta hard-edged line. A unique feature of the
Pencil tool is its ability to switch between the current
foreground and background colors using the Auto Erase
feature.
The Color Replacement tool lets you change color, hue, saturation, and luminosity values,
except instead of using a dialog as you do with Replace Color, you apply changes manually
with a brush. You can also specify mode, sampling, limits, and tolerance parameters for the
tool. And unlike the Brush tool, which applies flat colors, the Color Replacement tool tries to
preserve the original texture as it changes colors. This tool, like the Replace Color and Match
Color commands, is especially useful to advertising and catalog designers
CLONE STAMP
TOOL
PATTERN STAMP
TOOL
This creative tool allows you to paint on an image using pre-defined patterns. You can use the
patterns that are already in the Photoshop pattern libraries or you can create your own patterns, like
the yellow rose in this tutorial. When you click on the Pattern Stamp tool from the Photoshop toolbar,
the options for the tool will show across the top of the screen. The options bar allows you to change
the brush and brush size. Youll then pick the rose pattern created earlier in the technique, select a
layer and start painting.
HISTORY BRUSH
TOOL
The history brush lets you paint back in time. Photoshop keeps track of all the moves you make (well,
50 by default) and the history brush lets you paint the past back into the current photo. Say you
brightened up the entire photo but you wanted to make a certain area look like it did before you
brightened it, you can take the history brush and paint that area to bring back the previous darkness.
e History Brush Tool allows you to paint and reveal previous states of images. This can be very useful in
creating effects.
Revealing previous states of images
If you are familiar with the brush tool and layers this will be simple. I am going to artwork an image of a
Kingfisher to bring out the colours of the feathers. The original image was taken by
NatureatYourBackyard over on Flickr.
Open up the History pane by going to Window > History. You will see the last item should be Channel
Mixer. Now we are going to use the History Brush Tool to bring the colour forward. Select the History
Brush by hitting Y on the keyboard. In the history panel we need to define which History Item we will be
using to paint with. Next to each history item is a small box. Click in the box and you will see the history
brush icon appear. Now you can paint back what was in that layer.

Each gradient fill contains settings that control the opacity of the fill at different locations on
the gradient. For example, you can set the starting color to 100% opacity and have the fill
gradually blend into an ending color with 50% opacity. The checkerboard pattern indicates the
amount of transparency in the gradient preview.
