Cars of the future

A presentation made by Andrei Cain

History

Ever since the first automobile was invented in

1769 by Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot, constant
developments and new features have been
introduced to cars.

Notably, the inventions of the power

steering, disk brakes and airbags makes
todays driving much safer and more enjoyable.

Also, developments in aerodynamics lead to

faster cars that are usually more esthetically
pleasing. A good example of a pioneering
aerodynamic car is the Citroen DS from 1955.

So what can we expect from a future car?

Aeromobil

The AEROMOBIL is a prototype that was conceived as a vehicle that can be

converted from an automobile to an aircraft. The version 2.5 proof-ofconcept took 20 years to develop, and first flew in 2013. The prototype was
constructed by the AeroMobil Team, based in Bratislava, Slovakia and led by
co-founders tefan Klein and Juraj Vaculik, advised by inventor Dean Kamen.

Hybrid cars

A hybrid vehicle uses two or more distinct power sources to move itself.

Some may combine an internal combustion engine and one or more electric
motors. However, other mechanisms to capture and use energy may also be
included. This lowers the fuel consumption and the air pollution.

The Nissan Leaf is such an example, while also being the first plug-in electric car
equipped with Nissan's Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians because the electric engine
is too silent.

Electric Cars

An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors,

using electrical energy stored in rechargeable batteries or another energy storage
device. Electric motors give electric cars instant torque, creating strong and
smooth acceleration.

The perfect example of such car is the Tesla Model S. Launched in 2012, it quickly
became the best electric car ever made, as it has the largest range ever seen in
an electric car, it doesnt lack power and at about $40.000 its not very expensive,
considering you will never ever have to pay for fuel again.

Driverless cars

The driverless car is an automated or autonomous vehicle capable of fulfilling the

main transportation capabilities of a traditional car.

Autonomous vehicles sense their surroundings with such techniques as radar, GPS,
and computer vision. Advanced control systems interpret sensory information to
identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles.

Some demonstrative systems, precursory to autonomous cars, date back to the 1920s
and 30s. The first self-sufficient cars appeared in the 1980s.

Since then, numerous major companies and research organizations, such as Google,
have developed working prototype autonomous vehicles.

Paramagnetic paint

Paramagnetic paint has

the ability to simply
change color when it is
receiving electricity and
this change is called
electroluminescence.

Final words

The automotive industry is constantly changing depending of what the

customers want and what new technologies are developed.

As we can see, the full-electric vehicle is no longer a sci-fi dream and

the flying car is almost ready to be launched.

10 years from now, all the cars would have the possibility to drive
themselves and some of them even to fly to distant cities for a vacation.

Nobody knows exactly what the future will look like but the rise of gas
prices will definitely have their toll on selling new gasoline-fueled cars.

Maybe in the distant future, we wont have to use cars as a

transportation vehicle and we could just teleport wherever we want by
just imagining.

Thank you for your attention!
