Fatigue life Prediction of Upper beam of
Press Brake Machine under Uniaxial loading

Introduction

Energy mission PVT LTD manufacture Hydraulic press

brake bending machine ranging from 20MT to 700MT
with the length 1250mm to 6000mm.

They manufacture different types of punches regarding

to the Air bending application of EN-8 which have
tensile properties between 500-800 N/mm^2 .
Air bending is defined as three points of contact with
the part to form a straight line angle.

Why it is to be done
Crack initiation and growth of Upper Beam due to Variable
amplitude Loading.
Fatigue life prediction of upper beam

Influence of ram and bed deflection

on the angular precision of the workpiece.

Title:
Fatigue life prediction of a heavy vehicle steel wheel
under radial loads by using finite element
analysis

M.M. Topa , S. Ercan b , N.S. Kuralay

Engineering Failure Analysis 20 (2012) 6779

Work detail :
fatigue life estimation on the air ventilation holes of a wheel in
dynamic radial loading life S-N approach ..
The estimated SN diagram was constructed using the
ultimate tensile strength of the processed wheel disc material
which was determined via Vickers hardness tests.
The effects of factors such as surface roughness, size and
stress concentration were also taken into account using
endurance-limit modifying factors also known as Marin factors.

conclusion:
Local thickness, tc and the cross-sectional radius, rc at the
critical regions was applied. Stress analyses showed that by
using this solution, it is possible to decrease the equivalent
von Mises stress at these regions.

Significance:

fatigue life prediction using Ultimate tensile strength of

Processed material which relative to hardness.

Title:
Fatigue life prediction of Parabolic leaf spring under
various
road conditions

Y.S. Kong , M.Z. Omar , L.B. Chua , S. Abdullah

Engineering Failure Analysis 46 (2014) 92103

Work detail :

simulate the fatigue life of a parabolic leaf spring design

under variable amplitude loading (VAL).
VALs signal were gathered through measurements from
various road conditions such as highway, curve mountain
road and rough rural area road.
fatigue life of particular leaf spring design was predicted
using finite element (FE) stressstrain model together with
VALs signal as load input.

conclusion:
The experimental strain data collection was determined
based on the maximum stress and strain region

Significance:

FE method has provided the critical region of the parabolic

leaf spring where the strain gauge was attached. Strain signal
represents the parabolic leaf spring loading history when the
bus travels on the particular road.

Title:
Fatigue Life Design of Components under Variable
Amplitude
Loading with Respect to Cyclic Material Behaviour

Matthias Hell, Rainer Wagener, Heinz Kaufmann,

Tobias Melz,
3rd International Conference on Material and
Component Performance under Variable Amplitude
Loading, VAL2015
Procedia Engineering 101 ( 2015 ) 194 202

Work detail :

Material based approach considers the elastic-plastic material

behaviour through a combination of the local and the global
approach, improving thetransfer ability of material fatigue
properties to arbitrary geometries while reducing the
numerical effort for fatigue life estimation.

Conclusion:
Huge test programmes for the material characterisation in
the nominal stress concept including assessment of the
influences of stress concentrations, mean stresses and other
factors can be avoided by using material based component SN-curves.

Significance:

comparison between different fatigue design concepts, a new

approach was developed, combining the advantages of both
global and local approaches.

Title:
Loading sequence effect on fatigue life of Type
316 stainless steel

Masayuki Kamaya , Masahiro Kawakubo

International Journal of Fatigue 81 (2015) 1020

Work detail :

The fatigue life reduction due to the loading sequence effect

could be assessed conservatively by determining the
allowable number of cycles for effective stress amplitude.

conclusion:
It was concluded that the margin of 1.32.3 should be
considered in the number of cycles of the DFC(design fatigue
curve) to take account of the loading sequence effect
conservatively.

Significance:

strain-controlled fatigue tests, the HL sequence two-step,

repeating two-step and periodical overload tests showed
shorter fatigue life than that predicted by the LDR. On the
other hand, the LH sequence two-step test exhibited longer
fatigue life.
