Expectations from an Assessor
• Knowledge of the system which is being
assessed.
• Diligence in applying the assessment
methodology
• Ability to Focus on critical things during an
assessment.
• Fair judgment of status.
How do we fulfill them?
• Good Assessors detach themselves from
the Dept/Div mindset during the
assessment. This can help in bringing the
fairness in assessment.

• They take a completely professional view

irrespective of their prior knowledge or
experience.
Being a Perceptive assessor
• Assessors need not be “robots” in using
the tool.
• Many good assessors have a “Perceptive
evaluation”
• Being insightful and having a visual picture
of what to expect helps in being involved
in the process of assessment.
• This helps in building synergy with the
assessee.
Visualise before you go
• Good assessors do not treat the scale or
scoring guidelines as something
impersonal given by destiny to be
followed.

• They are able to visualise what a

particular level means and are able to
explain, if required.
Take a stand at 3
• Assessment becomes tough when
assessors observe something and look at
the entire scale 1 to 5 and fit in one of
them.
• Many of us cannot decide as it is tiring to
look at the entire scale and the
descriptions.
• I suggest that we look at 3 first.
What does Level 3 mean to us?
• Can we explain visually each of the
parameters for level 3.
• We need not take exact words as given
but try and describe the status which fits 3
best in our view.
There is more to team than what
appears
• Give time to evaluate the team processes
also under general.
How do we know a succesful team
from one which is not?
• Team identity is • Individual identity is
supreme. supreme.
• Decisions taken and • Decisions delayed or
implemented. not taken.
• Meetings attended by • Some active. Others

leadership.
In the end what matters?
• We must be able to identify best SDT
teams and replicate their practices.
• We must recognise the Divisional
Leadership which houses succesful teams
• We should counsel and help the teams
which have hit the road block.
What is in it for us?
• We become better team leaders.
• We can be recognised. ( May be one of
you must take this session next year)
• We can give valuable feedback for
improving the scoring guidelines.
