Question
Counselling ethics is important in
ensuring quality services to student
and teachers in a school. Discuss when
a counsellor has to breach the
guidance and counselling ethics.
Justify your reasons using examples
and facts from reliable and authentic

A branch of philosophy dealing with what
is morally right or wrong

individual or group of people that are
monitored by professional organizations.

In summary counselling ethics


are
Prioritise the client needs.
Counsellors should put aside their needs and guide the client in
order to help solve the problem.
Not use the client to meet their own needs.
Client consent right.
The right of a client to be notified of the therapy to make an
informed decision autonomously.
The basic information about the process should be written on
paper to be read by the client.

Confidentiality and communication privileges.


Client information is disclosed in the proses
of therapy will be protected from legal
procedures.
Discuss ethical and legal responsibility
before starting the process.

CODE OF ETHIC
The board that responsible for issuing a
code of ethics and principles of counselling
conducted by the Malaysia Counselling
Association.
The latest ethic code been issued by
Malaysia Counselling Boards.
this code and Counsellor Act 580 must be
understood by every counselling

Counsellors need to register with the board.


Counselling teacher may fail in carrying out their
responsibilities due to them being unregister and not
owning a certificate of practice.
Counsellor who is not confirmed may not be allowed to
help student in distress.
their statement will be inadminisible in court.
Unregistered counselling teacher may influence their
client to react inappropriately.
-some fail to follow code of conduct such as protecting
confidentiality.

Confidentiality is an essential part


of the counselling relationship.
A client must be able to trust that
the personal information he or she
shares with you will not be
revealed to other people

Case 1 (Commit Suicide)


Suicide of girl aged 13 bullied for being 6ft

A 13-year-old girl committed suicide


after being bullied at school for being
tall. She was 6ft, was allegedly
tormented by fellow pupils over a
period of seven months. She
swallowed several tablets of a
powerful painkiller and went to bed.

Counsellor may release


information if they receive a court
order. That might happen if they
have do something for example :
drugs, abuse, rape and murder.

Case 2
(Murder)

(2002) A 12 years old teenager


boy was convicted of killing his
tuition teachers daughter. He
was stabbing his tuition
teachers 11-year-old daughter
24 times at her house.

Client is a victim of sexual


abuse, rape or other crime.

Case 3 (Sexual Abuse)

Three sisters aged 13, 15 and


17 years old. Two of them was
molested while the other were
a sexual abuse victim for 10
years. The culprit is their own
father.(incest)

Conclusion
In conclusion, counselling ethics should be
followed by all the counsellors because it
important in ensuring the quality services given
to students and teacher. This is also to help
counsellors and client build trust by keeping their
secrets. However, under some circumstances.
Client confidentiality cannot be promised and
should be formally communicates to the parties
concerned. Counsellors should make the client
understand about the confidentiality to avoid any
