because of nonavailability of organs.
200,000 people die of
liver disease, 150,000
people await a kidney
transplant but only 5,000
get one.

WHAT IS ORGAN
DONATION..

Donation of biological
tissue or an organ of the
human body, from a
living or dead person to
a living recipient in need
of a transplantation.

Indian surgeon Sushruta in

the 2nd century BC, used
autografted skin
transplantation in nose
reconstruction.
HISTORY
The first human organ
transplant was a kidney
transplant performed by Dr.
Joseph Murray in 1954.

WHY DONATE?
Every 16 minutes, another
name is added to the waiting
list.
Each year, thousands of people
die while waiting for a
transplant, because no
suitable donor can be found for
them. The need for organ
donors has never been greater.

Victims can be kidnapped and
forced to give up an organ.
