Major agricultural products are Cocoa, Rice,


Cassava(manioc), Peanuts, Shea nuts and Corn
Ghana is second largest producer of cocoa in the
world after Ivory Coast, it was the second largest
foreign exchange earner for Ghana after gold till
2012
Agricultural activities constitute around 30% of the
total GDP of Ghana

Major mined commodities include Gold, Diamond,


Bauxite and Manganese
Mining and quarrying contribute around 5% of
Ghanas GDP
Ghana is second largest producer of gold in Africa
only behind South Africa
Gold production has grown almost 6 times from
5.2 mn ounces in 1990 to 29.2 mn ounces in
2011

Petroleum and Gas

Textile

Ghana is ranked 45 in terms of oil reserves in the


world, it had an estimated 660 mn barrels of oil
reserves in 2012
Oil and gas exploration is still underway and
government claim that reserves of around 5 bn
barrels will soon be found
In 2012, oil replaced cocoa as second largest forex
generator

An important source of foreign In 2009 export of

agricultural export

it still is the 2 largest producer of gold in African

diamonds but the production has been falling since

GDP, mining sector employs only 0.69% of the
working population as mining is dominated by
major international corporations that prefer to
employ better educated and trained workers from
