The Effect of Genes in

Development of
Homosexuality
A Research Paper
 This paper is about the explanation of
biology in the causes of homosexuality. The main
focus for the explanation of biology in this study is
the genetic determinism of its causes, a conclusion
of some geneticist which is until now debatable.
 This paper presents the concepts of Genes
and its applicability to the theory. It concerns to the
research of different gay activists and professionals
who are still discovering the real cause of
homosexuality. This research will tackle about
genes and will set a conclusion to its accuracy
which some are questioning of. Many researches
are presenting different facts concerning this
theory. Through the conducted survey, this paper
will explain the main reason/ the connections of
genes to homosexuality.

 Applied to the family background,
this will determine if genes inherited from
parents can develop homosexual
behavior.

THE RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY
Sampling Method

 The sampling method that was employed by

the researchers was Judgment Sampling
wherein they choose who will or will not be
included on their sample. They choose the
Bachelor of Science in Marine
Transportation-1 Honor Class as their
respondents. Further, the respondents were
chosen purposively and administered the
questionnaire to these prospective
respondents.

Statistical Treatment

 The facts gathered from respondents/ the

statistics collected used the percentage
method on getting the output in each
category. In each of the category with
corresponding subtopics were tallied, used
the percentage method and determine the
number of people either agreed/ disagreed
in the question. The methods for computing
are as follows:

Percentage= No. of people answered in the choices
 The number of respondents

 After getting each percentage, each were

interpreted based on what shows in the table.
Then, the outputs for analysis were obtained.

THE SURVEY RESULTS
Table 1
 The result of table 1 about the history of a
homosexual family member simply shows
that almost 47.37% out of 19 surveyed
respondents are having a homosexual family
member and 52.63% of them were not. In
the query of evidently showing or not,
42.11% of them say yes while the remaining
57.89% of them says no.

Table 2
 Table 2 shows the possibility of distribution of
genes from offspring to offspring. After
having the percentage results, only 15.79%
of surveyed respondents are saying that
their nuclear family is having a member who
is homosexuals. The others were saying that
nobody from their family is homosexuals.
The 42.11% of them says that they have a
relative in their extended families who are
homosexuals while the remaining 57.89% of
them were says that they don’t have family
members in extended family who are
homosexuals.

Table 3
 The table 3 shows which traits are dominant
or recessive in acquiring the possible
homosexual gene. Only 21.05% says that
they have family members who are
homosexuals that are in their mother’s side
and the 78.95% were not while 26.32% of
them say that it is in their father’s side and
73.68% of them were not.

Table 4
 Table 4 shows that only 5.26% of 19
respondents admitted as a homosexual
while 94.74% say that they were not. This
means that out of 19 respondents, only 1
admitted as having the orientation of being
a homosexual.

THE CONCLUSION
 Genes are not the primary causes of
homosexuality. Genes are not dictating the
human behavior. It must have its complexity
to govern a behavior. There were no such
genetically-governed behaviors. The “one-
gene-one-trait” does not occur in complex
organisms but rather in simple organism
itself. Therefore, genes were not the main
cause of homosexuality.
