Labour Welfare

With Reference To
GLAND PHARMA

INTRODUCTION
The economic development of a country depends
upon the production of commodities and services.
The production is the result of five factors of
production land, labour, capital, organization or
management and entrepreneurship. Out of these five
factors, the labour is the active factor of production.
The productivity of labour has gained the greatest
attention of industrial psychologists and researchers
in the field of economics and management. The
happiness and the efficiency of workers are the
mirror of the prosperity of an industry. This prosperity
of an industry is the end result of productivity.

NEED FOR THE STUDY

When a worker comes to work in a factory, he has to
generally work and live in unhealthy, congested
factories and slum areas, with no outdoor recreation
facilities.
The conditions under which work is carried on are
not congenial for health and when a labour joins an
industry, he has to work in entirely strange
atmospheres, which create problems of adjustment.
The excessive heat or cold, noise, odours, fumes,
dust and lack of sanitation and pure air etc., stretch
out their adverse effects on to the worker long after
his normal 8-hour work also.

Scope of the Study

The present study is confined to:
Study of large scale industries of Kumaun
region only.
Study of labour welfare measures adopted
by the large scale industries only.
Study of effectiveness of labour welfare
measures on labour productivity only.
Study of economic variables of labour
welfare measures only.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

To find out the statutory and voluntary welfare
measures adopted by the management.
Collect the views of the workmen through
questionnaires and enquiries.
Measure the gap between the "said" and the "done."
Put forth the findings and suggestions before the
management aiming at recommending
improvements or alterations (if any) in the existing
facilities and also recommend introduction of any
more facilities if necessary.

LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

Though social security measures
form an important part of labour
welfare measures, they are not
covered under this study.
Their exclusion, though a short
coming of this study, is purely due to
inadequacy of the time available to
complete the project work.

FINDINGS
Labour welfare measures help in increasing the produc tivity of an enterprise as these influence the attitude of the workers.
The objec tive of profit maximization which is the ultimate objective of business enterprises may be achieved only with the c ontribution of workers in the form of enhanced labour productivity.
Increase in productivity to a large extent depends upon the constructive role and attitude of workers in the production process.

SUGGESTIONS
Ensure timeliness of the provision i.e.,
Medicines must be available when the need
arises.
Ensure that ample stock is maintained. For
this purpose, a person can be assigned with
the responsibility of keeping a check on the
stock of medicines on a day to day basis and
report it to concerned authority.
Train a person from every batch/cell/area
about the application of which
medicines to what kind of ailments.

CONCLUSION
After analyzing the whole data it can be
stated that the overall satisfaction levels of
employees about welfare measures in the
organization cover under study is satisfactory.
However, a few are not satisfied with welfare
measures provided by the organization.
Therefore it is suggested that the existing
welfare measures may be improved further.
Such welfare measures enrich the
employees standard of living and their
satisfaction levels.
