Spark plug seal washer

Replace seal washer whenever you reinstall spark plugs.
Spark plug sealing washers must be replaced whenever a spark plug is re-installed in the engine.
Spark plug removal begins by blowing compressed air around the spark plug area to remove any
loose dirt or debris. This helps to ensure that contaminants will not fall into the combustion
chamber once the spark plug is removed. Using a spark plug removal socket, remove the spark plug
from the cylinder head, make careful inspection of the spark plug. Spark plugs can be an indicator
of how the engine is operating. If the spark plugs are determined to be in a reusable condition,
remove and discard the sealing washers and replace with new ones. It is important for proper spark
plug operation to replace the seal washer. The seal washer is crushable to create a good seal
ensuring optimum heat transfer between plug and cylinder head. If these sealing washers are
reused, proper sealing and heat transfer may not occur, which could result in spark plug problems
and/or lead to engine damage.
Spark plug electrodes gaps are pre-set at the factory, but they should be checked and/or re-set prior
to installation. Different applications or engine models may use the same part number spark plug,
but may require different spark plug gap. It is important that the proper plug and gap be used for
the application for which they have been intended.
