Planing

Planingis amanufacturingprocess of material removal in which the workpiece


reciprocatesagainstastationarycuttingtoolproducingaplaneorsculptedsurface.
Planingisanalogoustoshaping.Themaindifferencebetweenthesetwoprocessesis
thatinshapingthetoolreciprocatesacrossthestationaryworkpiece.Planingmotion
istheoppositeofshaping.Bothplaningandshapingarerapidlybeingreplacedby
milling.
