CEREBELLUM
Group N : 11

Cerebellum
located behind four
ventricle and the pons

white substance

cerebellar cortex

An external or molecular

An internal or granular
An intermediate layer
composed of bulky cells
(Purkinje cells)

Cerebellum
Function

The cerebellum
processes input from
other areas of the brain,
spinal cord and sensory
receptors in order to
indicate the exact for
coordinated .

It is associated with
motor activities
initiated in other parts
of the nervous system.

It helps control
voluntary movements
providing precision
and coordination.

It is essential for the

maintenance of posture
and balance for their
kinesthetic and
vestibular connections

It helps predict future

positions of the
extremities.

Signs of
Cerebellar
Syndrome

Hypotonia:
Disminution of the of the
muscle tone

Ataxia:
Incordination of voluntary
movement

Alteration of tha
equilibrum and march

Intencional tremor:
This it is produce
when tha patients
want to take a
object.

Dandy Walkers
Syndrome

Dandy-Walker's syndrome is a congenital

malformation of the brain that concerns
the cerebellum and the stuffed cavities of
liquid that surround it.

The principal features of this syndrome

are:
- Increase of size of the fourth ventricle

- Partial or total absence of the cerebellar vermis.

- Formation of a cyst near the internal base of the
cranium.
- Increase of the size of the cavities of liquid that
surround to the brain
- Increase of the pressure inside these cavities..

Joubert Syndrome
The Joubert syndrome is
caused to the hereditary
being by mutations in the
multiple genes
Therefore, the signs
motorboats and
messages from the
brain are incomplete

The vermis of
the cerebellum is
deformed

It is a genetic
disorder

Cerebellar
Hypoplasia

In children, hypoplasia is presented with

maturational delay, hypotonia , ataxia,
seizures, mental retardation and
nystagmus
