Time Slider histogram For Alarms


The Time slider shows a histogram of the number of alarms occurring along
the time axis

It is possible to expand this time interval, or to zoom in for a further detailed


histogram

Alarm Severity are represented by colors


Alarms can be seen from the Tree view, Map view or from Logical view
To see details, right click on the item, Fault and then Current alarms.
To see previous alarms from the data base, right click on the item, Fault
and then Historical alarms.

Fault Management Tasks

Alarm acquisition in the form of notification reception from NEs


Display network alarm status in many different ways
Coloring of graphical objects in the network views
Display new (un-acked) alarms and old (acked) alarms
independently.

Propagation of the highest severity level upwards in the


network display hierarchy.

Display alarm summary count


Display current alarms
Alarms acking, unacking and commenting
Audible notifications upon severity level increase.
Display historical alarms; specify advanced filters/queries.
Customize alarms for selected NE types (alarm text, severity
and blocking) for a selection of NEs through alarm templates.

Gray

White

A notice from the NE, which


is not connected to any
error situation, e.g. a
confirmation.

Indeterminate Condition
Pink

The network manager cannot determine the severity of an alarm.

Priority 6 in the list of severities


Example alarm: Lost Contact
When no contact has been made with the network element, NetMaster cannot
determine the correct status of the alarms on the NE, as alarms are currently no
longer being received.
Possible causes:
- Communication Ports
- Managements cables/connections
- SU/Control unit
- Link down, etc.

Warning Condition
Yellow
Indicates the detection of a
potential or impending fault
that will affect the service,
before any significant effects
have been felt. Action should be
taken to further diagnose and
correct the problem in order to
prevent it from becoming a more
serious fault that will affect the
service.

Minor Alarm

Brown

Indicates the existence of a


condition not affecting the
service, but that requires
corrective action in order to
prevent a more serious
fault.

Orange

Indicates that a condition


affecting the service has
occurred and urgent
corrective
action is required.

Critical Alarm

Red

The most severe alarm. It


signifies that a condition
affecting the service has
occurred and immediate
corrective action is
required.

Loss of Connectivity

Blue

Indicates that no contact


has been made with the
network element. The
communication settings
should be checked in order
to obtain contact with the
element.

Alarm states

Active: When a clearable alarm is raised for the NE.

Acked: When a clearable alarm is being followed up. Its possible to


add a comment to the alarm.

New: A clearable alarm which is currently active and has not been
acked is called a "new alarm".

Cleared: When the fault condition disappears from the NE the


alarm becomes "cleared" and the NE sends a "clear" signal to
NetMaster. The alarm then go to Historical Alarm list in the
database.
