Scada System Objectives

The objectives of LDP/EMS Project are to provide a Load Despatch System
based on state-of-the-art technology so that:
Power system control and monitoring can be performed more
efficiently.
Timely operational decisions are taken to minimize outages and losses.
Appropriate hardware and software tools are made available to achieve
the above purposes.

Main Functions of Scada System

Acquisition and processing of network data,

Processing and indication of status signals, alarms,
measurements,
Visualisation of process information and logging (HumanMachine-Interface - HMI),
Processing of commands and set point values,
Storage and retrieval of archive data including disturbance
data processing,
Topology calculation and dynamic network colouring,
Equipment statistics,
Load shedding,
Check before execute function.

Concluded Scada Main Functionalities

Generation control
Network analysis
Load Forecast
Scheduling
Dispatcher training simulator (OTS)

The configuration is based mainly on the following hardware model

HP Proliant DL380 G5 servers

HP Proliant DL320 G5 servers
HP ws46000 workstations
Cisco Catalyst 3560 switch
Cisco 2821 router
Cisco ASA5520 firewall
HP LaserJet and Inkjet Printers
Meinberg Lantime Clock
Terminal servers DIGI (RTU interface)
Wall board

IEC Standard for RTUs

IEC 60870 series protocols will be implemented for RTU data
transmission network. Where legacy protocol is available, necessary
emulator shall be provided for conversion to IEC 60870 series
protocol.

IEC Standard

IEC 60870 series protocols will be implemented for RTU data

transmission network. Where legacy protocol is available, necessary
emulator shall be provided for conversion to IEC 60870 series
protocol.
Examples are IEC 61850 for communication within the substation, IEC
60870-5 for the communication between substation and control
center.
IEC 61107 or currently IEC 62056-21, was an international standard
for a computer protocol to read utility meters. It is designed to
operate over any media, including the Internet.
For smart metering and smart grids the protocols of choice are
DLMS/COSEM(Device Language Message Specification )/(Companion
Specification for Energy Metering).
