with the help of 40 medical representative who
shared their experiences and their views about
the pharmaceutical industry.

This presentation reflects the thought of medical


representative that what they like and what they
dislike about pharmaceutical industry.

ABOUT PHARMACEUTICAL
INDUSTRY

The pharmaceutical industry develops , produces


and markets drugs for use as medications.
Pharmaceutical companies may deal in generic or
brand medications and medical devices.
Globally India ranks 3rd in terms of volume and
14th in terms of value.
The indian pharmaceuticals market increased at a
CAGR of 17.46 % in 2015 from US$ 6 billion in 2005.
By 2020 , india is likely to be among the top three
pharmaceutical market by incremental growth and
sixth largest market globally in absolute size.

MEDICAL SALES
REPRESENTATIVE

Medical sales representative ( widely refers to as


reps ) are a key link between medical and
pharmaceutical companies and healthcare
professionals.
They sell their companies product which include
medicines , prescription drugs and medical
equipment to a variety of customers including
GPs and hospital doctors , pharmacists and
nurses.
They work strategically to increase the awareness
and use of their companies pharmaceutical and
medical product.

To create demand for existing medical product of


the company.
Launching new product of the company.
Ensuring availability of the product at retailers
and stockiest.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF
MEDICAL
REPRESENTATIVE

Arranging appointments with doctors,


pharmacists and hospital medical teams, which
may include pre-arranged appointments or
regular 'cold' calling.
Making presentations to doctors, practice staff
and nurses in GP surgeries, hospital doctors and
pharmacists in the retail sector.
organising conferences for doctors and other
medical staff.
building and maintaining positive working
relationships with medical staff and supporting
administrative staff.

POSITIVE FINDINGS

FLEXIBILITY
It seems medical sales professionals value theflexibilitythat comes
with their jobs more than anything else. The ability to work your own
hours and make your own schedule that is, as long as everything is
going well.

MONEY
Of course the income potential in medical sales is an important benefit
to working in medical sales, but respondents specifically enjoy the
direct correlation they see between how hard they work and how much
they earn.

CUSTOMERS
Medical sales professionals also genuinely enjoy their
relationships withcustomers the doctors, nurses and other
healthcare providers who buy, recommend, and administer their
products and services.

AUTONOMY
As one respondent explains it, The medical sales profession
provides an opportunity to build a business within your territory.
It allows you to develop relationships and to provide consultation
and value to your customers.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The ability to sell a product that can change lives and possibly
save them is a great feeling. Another says, I enjoy the reality
that the products and services my organization provides have a
direct impact on the well-being of patients.

NEGATIVE FINDINGS

STRESS
Medical sales jobs also come with considerable stress. Some
respondents specifically cited stress caused by the pressure to make
quotas.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Nothing is perfect in life and a sales career that is being built or
competition is tough, you might not be meeting your goals and the
pressure and job satisfaction could be really tough when you are
being asked as to why your business is not producing.

CHALLENGING
A challenging work environment could mean stress and pressure
for some people. Some people who cannot handle the challenging
and demanding work of running a sales territory can also become
depressed when not accomplishing goals and the pressure could be
significant.

CONCLUSION

Realistically one should look at his career and


don't chase the money alone. Look within
himself and ask the tough questions to see what
his strengths are and where he could truly excel.
As with any career, there are superstars and ones
that consistently perform poorly. By finding his
match for a career, He could gain career
satisfaction and all the pros that comes with it.
