There is the doubt of the proud skeptic,
who delights in his own intellect.
He sets himself against God as if he is a match
for the Almighty.
He delights in upsetting the faith of weak
believers.
He sets forth his arguments against Gods
existence or the Christian faith (brilliant thinker)

Psalm 14:1, the fool has said in his


heart, there is no God

doubt
The person who wants to
believe, but hes struggling with
difficult questions.
Yet to see the glory of Jesus as the allsufficient Saviour of sinners
Sin of wanting to run his/her own life

doubt
A believer who has taken his/her
eyes off the Lord in the midst of
difficult situation.
For example, the disciples experiencing
a storm

What cause believers to doubt God?
Do you believe that every believer
who doubts God sins against Him?

struggles with doubt?

The case of Zechariah (Luke


1:18)

His wife was barren (Elizabeth)
An angel (Gabriel) of the Lord
appeared to him
The angel foretold Johns birth

Zechariah doubted and as a


result he was unable to speak
until the child was born.

The case of John the Baptist

He testified that Jesus is the Messiah

He was in prison

he sent them to the Lord to ask, Are you


the one who is to come, or should we
expect someone else? Luke 7:19(NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all of

your own understanding, but
in all your ways acknowledge
him and he shall direct your
path. Proverbs 3:5-6

firmness, steadfastness, fidelity
unmovable
Betah connotes the feeling of
security, which often comes from
reliance on someone of something.
betah can be used with either a
positive or a negative connotations.

Psalm 13:5

Psalm 13:5 but I trust

trust in the name of the
Lord our God.

Do not put your trust in man


The word betah, used in referring to
reliance on human beings or anything
other than God, the term usually
carries a negative connotation
Psalm 41: 9 speaks of treachery of even trusted
friends.
Psalm 146:3 warns against trusting in princes
Jeremiah 9:4 - counsels against trusting ones
neighbour

Do not trust
- Proverbs 28:26 vain things (mind)
- Psalm 44:6 weapons and chariots
(Isaiah 31:1)
- Deut 28:52 fortified cities and
strongholds

What does this mean for us


Psalm 118:8,
it is better to trust in the Lord
than to put confidence in man.
