Performance management is one of the most
important functions of human resource management.

Strengths
BSL is having large area under its authority which at as a strength to the company.
New expansion plans are easily possible.
BSL is near to the resources like metal ores, water source, coal belt area etc. Being
near to the resources reduces many costs.
BSL is an old company; due to this people are highly experienced and skilled.
It is having a centralized marketing system so marketing of products is not a
problem.
SAIL has the largest distribution network. It has presence in all district in India.
Size range & quality makes SAIL a preferred choice for long products.
SAIL a major supplier in Tube making sector.

Captive Iron Ore Mines.

Weakness
As company is very old its technology as also became old which is
affecting the quality of product as well as cost of production.
Through marketing is centralized, the market is far from the plant
which increases the transportation cost.
Age mix is a weakness. More than 50% of the employees are of above
50 years of age. Working in plant requires physical lot of hard work
and people above 50 years of age are not fit for this type of work.
Educational background is low or not generally prevails here as in
other steel plants.
Lack of result oriented approach is seen.

Opportunities

India is growing fast so new opportunities are also coming. Scope exists due to developmental potential
(Growth in GDP).
Unexplored Rural Demand.
New government is launching new infrastructure development plans like construction of new bridges, railway
etc.
Rapid Growth in construction & Auto Sector.
New expansion plan can be brought by the SAIL.
By product expansion plan like cement industry.
Proposed expansion plan like increasing the capacity from 4MT to 7MT. Construction of new CRM and SMS3.
