Learning

Learning
Various types of scaffolds
Supported, tube & coupler type
Scaffolds with height to base ratio of
more than 4:1 shall be restrained from
tipping by guying, bracing, tying or the
equivalent
Scaffolds & scaffold components must
support at least 4 times the maximum
intended load
Top rail & mid rails are reqd, else provide
personal fall protection system.

Learning
The platform must not deflect more than 1/60
of the span when loaded
The standard prohibits the use of cross braces
as a means of access
Access must be provided when the scaffold
platforms are more than 0.6m (2 feet) above or
below a point of access
To protect employees from falling hand tools,
debris & other small objects, install guardrails
systems, debris nets or barricades.
Employees must wear helmet.

Dos & Donts

Each person who could fall more
than 2 meters shall be protected
from falling by a fall protection
system like guardrails, personal
fall arrest systems.
Fixed fall protection, such as
guardrails are preferred over the
use of personal fall arrest
systems.

Dos & Donts

Top height of handrails shall not
be less than 900mm & not more
than 1200mm above the walking /
working surface of a platform.
Cantilever can be maximum 1
meter allowed.

Dos & Donts

Walkway plank should extend
not less than 6 & not more than
12

Dos & Donts

Midrails
shall
be
installed
approximately halfway between
the walking / working surface
and the handrail.

Dos & Donts

In addition to wearing helmet,
additional protection from falling
objects may be provided by

immediately.

Dos & Donts

Ladders can be used up to 6 meters
of height
Above 6 meters of height two
separate ladder to be used or stair
case module to be used.
Additional access (ladder /stair ) is
required for 5 meter & more long
scaffolding

Administration
Tagging Red & Green
Red Scafftag: Indicates that the scaffold
has not been inspected or is not safe for
use by anyone other than Scaffolder (for
scaffold completion/rectification work only)
Green Scafftag: Indicates that the scaffold
is complete and is safe for use at the time
of inspection. A green scafftag is valid for a
maximum of two weeks.

Administration
Material belongs to Contractor
Assembling / dismantling done by
contractor
Ownership / accountability of material by
contractor (I.e. L&T will be charged for
damaged material, if damaged during use)
Contractor is experienced (serving at RPL
Jamnagar)

Cost
Contractor is paid by the volume
If no. of days are more than 30,
additional charge is applied

What is expected from you

Give requirement only when reqd
After scaffolding is erected, ensure
that no modifications are done which
can result in unsafe condition
For long duration work, check
fortnightly (as per checklist)
Immediately after use, get the
scaffolding dismantled

Checklist

Color coding of scaffold material

Contractor annually checks
scaffolding material for wear /
