assure system and equipments safety

Protection against mistaken wiring
If the phase line is connected to the neutral by mistake, ATNS will generate

alarming signals
Protection against non-execution
If the breaker fails to perform proper function within 5 seconds the switching

signal is sent, the controller will generate alarming signals

FAQ
Q&A

32

FAQ(1/8)
About controllers
1.B controller does not have generator cool down function, or yes?
Re: B controller does have the function to start and stop generators.
2. For B controller, sticker for identifying ATNS specification displays only its rate such as Ir = 100A for
ATNS100. Can customer use it with other rating?
Re: Sure. (For TMD trip unit, 0.8-1 In adjustable)
3. Can I use other controller with ATNS such as UA controller?
Re: No for UA. Customer is not advised to use controllers other than ATNS controller to assure better
performance, but you can if your controller meet specific requirements.
4. Do we have other control voltage beside 220V AC for the controller?
Re: Till now, no.
5. In controller B, There is facility for fire indication. Could you confirm if the ATNS detect the fire, and
what happen the next, Is it only give indication or signal only, or ATNS will change to OFF position.
Re: ATNS will respond to fire signal but the product itself is not supposed to detect fire. When receiving fire
signal, the product will switch to OFF position automatically and shed the non-priority equipments (those not
related to fire production equipment). ATNS will return to primary position if only fire signal disappears.

33

FAQ(2/8)
About controllers (Continued)
6. If the Normal Source CB is tripped. Does the ATNS change to the replacement source or to the off
position?
Re: ATNS will not transfer to replacement source if CB tripped due to current fault to avoid further fault. Instead
it will stay still and LED on faceplate will indicate tripped signal. When the fault has been removed, please retrip CB unit by handle and push Automatic/manual operation switch to Automatic position , then push reset
button on controller to clear up the tripped indication , ATNS will return to normal automatic operation state.
7. For controller B, 255s is short because the required warm up time for generator is 7 minutes.
Re: We can work on that if necessary to change, technically no problem.
8. Need to improve the range of ATS controller auxiliary control supply. It should have at least +/- 10%
tolerance to prevent burning of the controller as some of the customer has a higher system voltage in their
plant.
Re: Control voltage for ATNS controller ranges from 85% to 115%.
9. Can you sell the controller in separate?
Re: Yes.
10. Do the controllers have self-failure detection function?
Re: No.

34

FAQ(3/8)
About installation and maintenance
1.If component in ATNS is damaged, can customer order only that component?
Re: Yes.
2. Customer asked about the maintenance period and how to do maintenance.
Re: Not decided yet.
3. Can customer adjust mechanical part of ATNS? For example, a rod at toggle switch may be error
after operating for a long time.
Re: Customers are not supposed to replace the mechanical parts by themselves.
4. If the CB is broken could we change the breaker only, Is it the same breaker with always use and
what accessories inside the breaker.
Re: CB can be replaced during maintenance in case of damage happening, but rearrangement of wiring will
be needed for accessories such as OF and SD. Technical support will be available from the manufacturer
when necessary. The breaker is normal CB, and inside which, 2 OF, 1 SD, 1SDE and 1 SDE adapter is
needed.
5. Can we use reverse power (incoming from the bottom, not from top) ? Because I see the power for
control, they take from top terminal. And in application usually incoming busbar from bottom. then to
the load.
Re: In china market most customers prefer incoming power from the top. As what you see the controller
power come from top voltage sampling wires, so if you want to reverse power and incoming from the bottom,
what we need to modify is just moving the voltage sampling wires to the bottom of CB. If you do have
volume demand in Indonesia market as this requirement, we can provide customized products.
35

FAQ(4/8)
About installation and maintenance (continued)
For B type controller

36

FAQ(5/8)
About handles
1. A lever arm, used for manual mode, is not locked with its slot.
Re: Handle is not supposed to be locked with its slot.
2. Where can customer hang or keep a lever arm? (For example, NW has
a place for keeping a lever arm.
Re: Customers can hang the lever arm inside switchboard. We may develop
the ergonomics function later.
3. The design of handle is not good enough because the key could be
damage if we use it often. And how about the compact NS630 is it the
same design because the force to lift up the toggle is heavier than NS100
Re: The test on handle was conducted strictly according to IEC 60947-617.2.4.2.2 (10% manually operation, >660 times) with satisfactory result.
Handles for NS630 and NS100 are not in same design; its much better in
terms of handle length and toggle strength.
Please send us the picture and we will conduct investigation into the matter if
any problem takes place during application.

37

FAQ(6/8)
About accessories
1. How can customer install auxiliary such as SD, SDE or MN by himself? QC sticker is adhered
between a mask motor mechanism module and plate so if he opens that mask, warranty may be
expired.
Re: Customers are not supposed to replace or add SD ,SDE and MN by themselves. Schneider After Sales
Service engineers have to offer the service.
2. How long will communication cable be available? Sometimes customers panel comprises B
controller on the top and breaker in the bottom. The existing communication cable is not long
enough.
Re: 2 meters are available.
3. Can we add on additional accessories?
- OF auxiliary switch
- SDE auxiliary switch
- MX shunt trip release
Re: Yes.
4. Do we have the coupling accessories for the present Compact ATNS?
Re: Yes. The coupling accessory can be used for any CB-type TSE.

38

FAQ(7/8)
About power supply insulation module
1. Dont you have indicator of fuse in power supply module. Customers
cant know fuse status.
Re: Fuse status can be indicated by LED.
2. What is the input voltage rating to the isolation module ?
Re: AC220V.

39

FAQ(8/8)
Other questions
1. Ratings should be more flexible or higher than 630A?
Re: We are working on ATNS 800~1250A; for rating higher than 1250A, UA/BA ATS is
recommended.
