Speech and Oral

Communication
By: Ms. Cel A. Tibayan

The Need for

Speech and Oral
Communications Skills
Training

To improve oral communication in

professional, business and social situations.
To influence other peoples beliefs, ideas, and
values
To enjoy life
To establish your relationship with other
people; and
To establish credibility

Every time you communicate with

people, you present:
Yourself
Your ideas; and
Information to others

If you:

Want to move up the ladder of success

Wish to have a positive impact on others
Want to have your skills and talents recognized
and rewarded:

then strive to be a
successful communicator NOW!

Most colleges and universities offer courses in

public speaking because it is seen as such an
essential part of going out and succeeding in
the real world.

What good is teaching people how to do a job

if they freeze up any time they talk to a group
or speak out at a meeting?

Competence in oral communication in

speaking and listening- is prerequisite to
students academic, personal, and professional
life.
Students with ineffective listening skills fail to
absorb much of the material to which they are
exposed.
Students who cannot clearly articulate what
they know may be wrongly judged as
uneducated or poorly informed.

Students who are unable to effectively ask for

help from a teacher will not receive it.

Youngsters with poor communication skills are

sometimes viewed as less attractive by their
peers and enjoy fewer friendships.

On the positive side, the ability to

communicate orally supports sound
psychological development. One's self-concept
is acquired through interaction with others.
