1800-BCCH TRIAL

Post Activity Comparison

OVERVIEW

1800 only BCCH trial was conducted in urban clutter of

Faisalabad city. The purpose of the trial was to observe the
impact of Pure-DCS cells in a dual band network.
900 TRXs of selected cells were locked, and expansion was
carried out in DCS to accommodate traffic. BCCH and SDCCH
were defined on 1800 and separate cell Ids were defined for
newly created DCS-only segments.
Averaged KPIs for four days before and after the activity are
taken for comparison.

SITE LOCATION
FFD008 is located in urban clutter of Faisalabad city having average
intersite distance of 0.8 Km. Site location is depicted below.

MAJOR KPIs : CSSR

Improvement in CSSR is observed after the trial in all cells.

MAJOR KPIs : TCH BLOCKING

TCH blocking comparison depicts negligible blocking, both before and after the
activity.

MAJOR KPIs : SD DROP RATE

SD Drop rate has improved in all cells due to improved quality and reduced
interference.

MAJOR KPIs : TCH TRAFFIC

Average BH TCH Traffic before and after the activity is depicted above.

MAJOR KPIs : RF/HO Drops

RF/HO drops have also decreased as expected, although traffic has increased
slightly

MAJOR KPIs : TCH UTILIZATION

TCH Utilization has remained consistent after the trial.

MAJOR KPIs : Erlang/TRX

Erlang/TRX has remained the same indicating same carried traffic.

MAJOR KPIs : Downlink Quality(0-5) %

Percentage of good quality samples in downlink have increased.

MAJOR KPIs : Uplink Quality(0-5) %

UL Quality has slightly decreased after the activity.

MAJOR KPIs : Handover Success Rate

HOSR is improved for all segments after the activity due to quality improvement
in surrounding cells.

MAJOR KPIs : DCR

DCR has shown improvement after the trial, mainly due to improved HOSR and
DL Quality.

MAJOR KPIs : HO Share : FFD008

For FFD008, DL Qual HO share has reduced , but UL Qual has increased
significantly.

MAJOR KPIs : TA Comparison : FFD008

TA trend remains almost the same for FFD008, indicating no coverage issue after
the activity

MAJOR KPIs : TA comparison for direct Neighbors

TA comparison for 1st tier neighbors is depicted above.

KPIs comparison for adjacent cells

Significant quality improvement is observed in direct neighbors due to reduced

fractional load.

Improvement in downlink quality is observed for neighboring cells.

Improvement in uplink quality is observed for neighboring cells as well.

Average DCR,HOSR of surrounding cells is also showing improvement in the

absence of GSM Band in FFD008.

CONCLUSION

The KPI trends for FFD008 show an improvement in HOSR,

downlink Quality and DCR after the trial.
KPIs of neighboring cells have also shown improvement due
to reduced fractional load in the area in the absence of 900
band in FFD008.
FFD008 TA statistics indicate no coverage reduction after the
trial. Similarly, adjacent cells also show consistent TA trend.
The induction of pure-DCS cells in urban clutter will improve
KPIs of the area, while providing enough capacity and similar
coverage.
