Pregnancy Pathology

occurs when mother is Rh and baby

is Rh+; mothers antibodies cross the
placenta and attack babys blood;
older name is erythroblastosis fetalis

placenta previa
placenta forms low in the uterus

overlying the opening to the cervix
preeclampsia
metabolic disease of pregnancy; may

result in true eclampsia; symptoms
include hypertension, headaches, and
edema; also called toxemia

umbilical cord
if umbilical cord emerges from birth

pinched between babys head & vaginal
wall, cutting off blood flow to baby

death of a fetus of viable age; occurs

shortly before or at time of delivery
