HOW TO INSTALL

YOUR AIRCRAFT BATTERY

STEP 1

When performing any inspection or

maintenance on the powerplant, propeller or
that requires turning on the master switch, or
pulling the propeller through by hand; treat
the propeller as if the ignition switch were on.
DO NOT stand, nor allow anyone else to
stand, within the arc of the propeller as a
loose or broken wire or component
malfunction could cause the propeller to
rotate.

STEP 2
When you have finished viewing this presentation,
use the CAPS program found on the home page of
www.apex-inc.biz. Select the proper aircraft battery
for your aircraft.

Supplies needed to perform this task can be found

under Aircraft Battery Accessories at the
bottom of the web page.

STEP 3

Remove the necessary

cowling, access panels
or battery box cover to
gain access to the
aircraft battery.

STEP 4

CAUTION: Remove negative (-) wire from

battery first by removing wing nut. Battery is
marked NEG by battery post.

STEP 5
Remove

positive (+)
wire from
battery by
removing wing
nut. Battery is
marked POS
by battery
post.
Remove
battery from
aircraft.

STEP 6

Inspect condition of wire

terminals at this time.
Clean any corrosion from
terminal and battery box, if
necessary use Permatex
SA-8 or equivalent.
Service new battery by
following manufacturers
directions and install new
battery in same position as
removed battery. This is a
good time to mark the
battery with the date for
future reference.

STEP 7
Install positive (+) wire first using new wing nut and
hardware. Torque wing nut to manufacturers instructions.

STEP 8

Install negative (-) wire using new wing nut and

hardware. Torque wing nut to manufacturers
instructions.

STEP 9

For corrosion
protection, coat
battery terminal with
battery protector.
(Whip)

STEP 10

Remove any tools or

supplies from the
aircraft or engine
compartment.
If removed, reinstall
battery box cover,
access panels or
cowling.

STEP 11
Perform battery inspection every 90 days.

Check condition of terminals and check

electrolyte level.
