INTRODUCTION & PROJECT BRIEF


Kerala, often referred to as God's own country, has the best socio-economic

indicators in the country. But its alarming alcohol addiction is earning the state
a name for all the wrong reasons as the crime rate there also increases.
Alcoholism, among all age groups, is on the rise and it's taking a toll on the
state's 33 million-strong population.
In fact, Kerala has the highest per capita consumption of liquor in the country.
Kerala gets through 8.3 litres (15 pints) of alcoholic drinks per person per
year,.
A 2011 report by one of Indias largest trade bodies found that Kerala
accounted for 16% of national alcohol sales, the largest proportion of any
state.

To tackle the rising problem of addiction to alcoholism and drugs, the

KERALA STATE BEVERAGES CORPORATION (BEVCO) came up with the


proposal of a de-addiction Centre.
the government-owned Travancore Sugars and Chemicals is now with Bevco-its 90 acres of land at Valanjavattam near Thiruvalla , is the proposed land
for the upcoming project.
The site is surrounded by the Manimala river. This add on to factor that the
proposed site is an apt location for the project.
Presence of waterbodies will support the concept of therapeutic community
as it brings out positive ambience.
The site is well connected to the city through major roads.

SOCIAL IMPACT
The problem of alcoholism
and drug abuse is a social
discomfort in the
present day scenario.
De-addiction Centre act as
medium to create social
awareness and educating
the people about the ill
effects of alcoholism and
substance abuse on the
individual, the family and
society at large.

CULTURAL IMPACT
According to a survey
conducted by the United
Nations Drug Control
Programme (UNDCP)
addiction is high among
both school and college
students. Drug use can be
accounted for as a trend
towards modernization.
De-addiction centre are
needed to act as a
preventive strategy for
early diagnosis and
treatment for drug and
alcoholic addiction which
inflicts damage in the
minds and souls of youth
who consume it & which
breaks families and
societies in the process
causing irreparable
damage to our culture.

ECONOMIC IMPACT
The small scale cottage industry plans introduced in the rehabilitation process

can add to the element of economic rehabilitation for addicts, as well as


establishing an after-care-cum rehabilitation.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT


ARCHITECTURAL VALUE
Architectural experience have lasting effects on the way people
live and interact with each other and their surroundings.
Proper designs can evoke feeling of safety and belonging and
helps the addicts to transit back to normal life.
Drug and alcoholism addiction rehabilitation is about bringing
out positive feelings and building a new identity for the addicts
architectural design is one of the best method in which a
space can be utilized in both practical spaces and landscape
wise.
This utilization can help in the upliftment of the spirit of the
addict and provide a necessary environment in which a
community daily life and activities can be most effective.

AIM
Therapeutic community design- group environment in which
the addicts and professionals interact in a setting promotting
trust and individuals are encouraged to become a part of the
community wiith the goal of rebuilding their social skills.
This controlled but institutionalized environment helps in the
faster psychological healing process.

To design a space that will change the users outlook on life

freedom and disciplinary control.

LIMITATIONS
Therapeutic architecture includes various subjects of health
care facilities design.
Only psychiatric health care facility design is taken in detail

PRAVASI GRAMAMLOCATION-Ayiroor- Edava village,trivandrum

INTRODUCTION
Pravasi Gramam is a project initiated by Government of Kerala in recognition

of the rich and invaluable contributions of the Non Resident Keralites (NRKs)
in the economic and social development of the State.
KSIDC has been appointed as the nodal organisation to develop and
implement this project.
This project aims at providing the NRKs and their succeeding generations
with a channel to maintain cultural and social linkages with Kerala and is
envisaged as a self-contained and well laid village representing a replica of
Kerala in terms of its culture, traditions, art forms, lifestyle, etc along with
facilities and infrastructure most sought after by the NRK community.

LOCATION-Ayiroor- Edava village,trivandrum

NEED OF THE PROJECT


SOCIAL IMPACT- About 20 lakhs keralites reside abroad. The project will

provide a platform for the rehabilitation of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs).


CULTURAL IMPACT- A large population is floating to foreign countries for

better job oppurtunities and higher education. This floating has resulted in
vast settlements in other countries.This has resulted in loosing of cultural
values. Modernisation has left behind the cultural values of motherland.The
project aims at creating awareness about the importance of cultural heritage.
ECONOMICAL IMPACT- Most of the developmental funds in kerala are

provided by the NRK sector. The proposed large scale project based on
NRKs will flush in huge investments which add on to the economic growth.

CONVENTION CENTRE
KAKKANAD, KOCHI

INTRODUCTION-PROJECT BRIEF
International trade fair complex and convention centre
Project is proposed as a joint venture by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure

Development Corporation (Kinfra) & the India Trade Promotion Organization


(ITPO).
project conceived as a hub for holding industrial exhibitions, conferences,
trade fairs, product launches, and national and international conventions.
Project will also provide other support services such as food court, shopping
mall, VIP lounge to meet the demand of visitors and the participants.
Centre can be designated as a trade and convention Centre for all major
economic events in Kerala.

LOCATION & LINKAGES


Kinfra has identified land for the proposed trade fair complex and convention

centre near Infopark Kochi, the proposed SmartCity Kochi and its own Kinfra
Export Promotion Industrial Park,situated in kakanad.
Proximity to the Kochi International Airport, Cochin Port, and the SeaportAirport Road has made Kakkanad ideal for the project.
Kinfra posses sufficient land for setting up of the project.
The project is proposed to be built upon 50 acres of land.
The trade fair complex will come up on 25 acres while hotels, and multiplexes
will be set up on the remaining land.
Kochi is the fast developing economic capital of kerala.
Excellent connectivity and business ambience of kochi make it a perfect
location for establishing a trade Centre.

SOCIAL IMPACT
Eventhough Kochi is hosting several exhibitions and trade fairs throughout

the year; it lacks a permanent venue and infrastructure for the same.
The project will act as a permanent venue for international trade fairs to
happen in kochi.
This will uplift the social face of kochi as major trade center.
ECONOMICAL IMPACT
The proposed project can bring about huge growth in the economic sector, as
the project will act as a platform for various national &international trade fairs
and conventions.
