Metal 2

Fly Ash

Fly-ash, otherwise known

as pulverized fuel ash is a
pozzolanic material. This
means essentially that it is
capable of combining
with lime (in a suitably
reactive form) in the
presence of water, to form
cementitious compounds

Water
An

important ingredient of concrete

Mixing water contains dissolved solid in excess of
2000 parts per million (ppm) and less than 1000
ppm
Any water with a pH (degree of acidity ) of 6.08.0 suitable for use
Storage mostly stored in underground water
water tank

Admixture mostly used for R.M.C

Admixture
Superplastisizer
(chemical)
Sulphonate malanie
Formaldehyde condensate

Sulphonate naphthalene
Formaldehyde condensate

Retarders
(Chemical)
Water Reducing Agent
(powder)

Advantages of using Admixtures

Pumpability

Increased strength
-Provides higher strength without increase in cement content or reduction in
workability.
-Ideal for precast production.

Improved quality and cohesion

-Reduced rate of workability loss
-Reduces shrinkage cracking because of lower water cement ratio.

Bleeding and segregation minimized

-Improves durability and impermeability of concrete.

Chloride is minimum
-Safe in pre-stressed concrete production

Superplasticizers

Blend of specially selected sulphonated naphthalene polymers

Uses:
Produce high workability concrete without loss of strength
Promote high early and ultimate strengths by taking
advantage of water reduction whilst maintaining workability
Produce high quality concrete of improved durability
impermeability.
At higher dosage, advantage can be taken of retardation of
initial setting time

Retarding Admixtures

Uses :
The unique dual function of the admixture improves both
mixing water efficiency
Delays initial set of concrete mixes.
Provide increased strength, density and workability
without increase in cement
Retardation of setting times enables avoidance of cold
joint
-Reduces rate of heat hydration
-Delays in transporting and placing concrete occur Towers,
chimneys, high buildings, slipform structure,
tunnel/shafting lining, offshore construction and in-situ
piles.

Water reducing admixtures

USES
To improve the effectiveness of the water content of a
concrete mix.
Higher dosage provides effective means of reducing
concrete permeability and thereby reducing water
penetration. Allows specified strength grades t be met at
reduced cement content or increased workability.
Water reduction significantly improves compressive
strength at all edges and enhances durability through the
production of low permeability concrete.
