There are certain reasons that make the


writer chooses the correlation between
grammar mastery and writing ability.

1. Grammar is one of the English


components that affect writing competence.
Students who have good grammatical
competence still need a guidance to become
effective writers.
2. The students who have good competence
in grammatical concept still need a guidance
to become effective writers.
3. Students mastery of grammar has more
or less influence on improving their ability in
writing.

1. To what extent do 7th semester students
grammar mastery?
2. To what extent do 7th semester students
writing ability?
3. Is there any significant correlation between

the data collection and analysis.

asked to select only one true answer. I gave
15 questions and 30 minutes for students to
do. While in writing test, I emphasized
student to write out an abstract that
consists 200-300 words in 45 minutes.

After the data was counted statistically, the
writer got tcritical was 2.045 and tobserved was
31.73. The criteria of test was H0 is
accepted if - tcritical tobserved tcritical. So by
testing hypothesis, it was proved that H0 is
rejected because the score was - 2.0452
31.73 2.0452. It means that there is
significant correlation between learners
grammar mastery and their writing ability.
