Climate and Weather Condition

The citys climate is classified as Type II which is characterized by no


pronounced or distinct dry season with a very pronounced maximum
rainfall from November to January.

The area receives 2000-3000 millimeters of rain per annual average and
124.4-168.8 millimeters annual monthly average.

Topography and Slope

Gingoog City has a rugged topography with level, nearly level and
undulating alluvial land on the northern portion of the city.

These lands are within 0 to 400 meter elevation and within 0-8
percent slopes and covers 24.70 percent of the total land area of the
city

ultra basic low and high relief hills and mountains on the southwestern
portion covers 41.30 percent with elevations ranging from 800
meters to above 1,000 meters

Mount Balatukan and Mount Lumot are the highest peaks which are both
located on the southwestern part bounding the Municipality of Claveria.

Soil Types

There are seven (7) types of soil present in Gingoog City, four (4) are
Clay, one (1) clay loam, hydrosol and undifferentiated mountain soil

percent of the total land area

This type is found in the hinterland barangays of Alagatan, Kalagonoy, Kalipay,


Kipuntos, Hindangon, Lawaan, Lunotan, Ricorro, San Miguel, Sangalan,
Tinulongan, Eureka and the forest reserves on the southern part of the city,
extending towards the southeastern boundaries of Agusan del Norte, towards
Claveria on the southwestern side and towards Bukidnon on the south most part.

Soil Types

Next to mountain soil are the 4 types of clay


This soil type has a depth of moderate to deep
good for plant growth, especially for penetrating plants like fruit trees.

Camiguin clay is next to mountain soil in terms of area with 27.90 percent

Mambajao clay occupies the third biggest area of 12.34 percent

San Manuel loam has one of the five (5) smallest areas of 2.70 percent

Bantug clay occupies 2.58 percent


Alimodian clay loam covers 1.75 percent
Hydrosoil covers the smallest area of 0.26 percent

This falls under the miscellaneous soil type with depth of deep to very deep.

good for mangroves, nipa and fishpond development.

Erosion Potential

Generally, Gingoog City has less problems regarding erosion

58.60 percent of its land either have no apparent erosion

4% or slightly prone to erosion

Areas, which are moderate to severely prone to erosion covers


41.40 percent with the first accounting for 38.57 percent.

These are the steep hills and mountains on the eastern part of the city
bounding the province Agusan del Norte and canyons and gorges along the
rivers scattered in the city.

Severely eroded land covers only 3.14 percent and are confined in
the northeastern part of Gingoog bounding the Municipality of Magsaysay.
