ANALYSIS AND
DESIGNING OF AN
INDOOR STADIUM
INTRODUCTION
The university has included the
project work as a part of the syllabus
in civil engineering in order to make
the students efficient in practical
works including planning, designing,
estimating and cost analysis. We
have selected an Indoor Stadium at
M.E.S
College
Mampad
near
Nilambur.
GENERAL
A structure is constructed economically by
giving proper organization of design, labour,
materials etc. the construction should be with
locally available materials. The materials used to
be sound and desirable. The designer should have
a clear idea about the local available materials.
The materials used for the construction should be
collected and stocked as near as possible to the
site well in advance so that work is not delayed for
want of materials. The labour should be well
supervised and construction should be completed
as quickly as possible. This helps to prevent the
rate of change of work to some extent.
OBJECTIVE
SCOPE
The college ground cannot used for any
sports during rainy season, further during the
summer season the intense heat and dusty
atmosphere interfere with the play system and
players. So an indoor stadium with all facilities
should be used for conducting games,
training, coaching camps day and night is the
necessity of the hours in MES College.
At present there are no areas with the
standard dimensions for sports trainees and
enthusiasts for training and practicing.
STUDY AREA
Site and location have great
importance in the design, planning
and layout of a building work. The
site shall be selected such that less
conveyance and manual load for
materials, availability of man power
and water shall also be considered.
The site selected for our project is at
M.E.S College Mampad about 5 km
from Nilambur.
LITERATURE REVIEW
C.S.Reddy: (1996):
A space truss which is just rigid is a
tetra hedron with 4 joints. An
additional joint can be performed by
adding 3 more members. The space
truss may be through out of a
structure device which contains ball
and socket .
Ramachandran (1992):
The analysis of space truss there
are three reference axis assumed
in
the
method
of
tension
coefficient and three equation.
Punmia (1995):
The economic spacing of truss
depends upon weight of truss,
purlines, column, roof covering
etc.

DATA COLLECTION
A building should be planned to
make it comfortable, economical and
to meet all the requirements. When a
building is planned, the most
important thing to be kept in mind is
that it should give maximum
convenience
economically.
The
planning should be done with great
care.

BASKETBALL
Playing court: College: 84 feet long by
50 feet wide (ideal dimensions).
High School: 84 feet long by 44 feet wide
(ideal dimensions).
Height of basket:10 feet (upper edge).
BOXING
Ring: Professional matches take place in an area
not less than 18 nor more than 24 feet square
including apron.
It is enclosed by four covered ropes, each not
less than one inch in diameter.
The floor has a 2-inch padding of equivalent
underneath ring cover that extends at least 6
inches beyond the roped area in the case of
elevated rings. The floor must extend beyond
the ring ropes not less than 2 feet.

BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION
Stadium is constructed with the height of
12mtr.
The stadium roof is constructed with Steel
Truss.
3 storied building also constructed near the
stadium with the construction joint of 10cm.
The building consist of flat RCC slab.
The whole structure is designed as framed
structure.
TRUSS WORK
The plane truss is provided in the Indoor
Stadium for supporting the roof covering.
ASSUMPTIONS IN ANALYSIS:
The members of a truss are pin jointed at
their ends.
The loads lie in the plane of the truss and
are applied only at the joints.
The centroidal axis of various members
framing into a joint will intersect at a
common joint.
