Unit 9:

Practical Individual Sports

Introduction to
Unit.
Aim of the unit:
To enable you to explore the skills, techniques
and rules of individual sports through active
participation.
Within this unit you will:
Develop your knowledge and understanding of individual

sports.
Gain the opportunity to participate in two individual sports as
performers and officials.
Gain the opportunity to develop and reinforce your
knowledge and ability in two individual sports.

Develop your practical performance focusing on application


of skill, techniques and tactics.

Introduction to Unit.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Know the skills, techniques and tactics required in selected

individual sports.
2. Know the rules and regulations of selected individual

sports.
3. Be able to assess own performance in selected individual

sports.
4. Be able to assess the performance of other individuals in

selected individual sports.

Course Breakdown
The unit will be split up into 4 assignments:
Assignment One: Skills, techniques and
tactics.
Within this first assignment we will look at:
Examples of Individual Sports.
Skills and technique's required for the two chosen sports.
Tactics relevant to two chosen sports.

Grading Criteria:
P1 describe skills, techniques and tactics required in two different
individual sports
P3 - demonstrate appropriate skills, techniques and tactics in two
different individual sports
M1 - Explain skills, techniques and tactics required in two different
individual sports

Course Breakdown
Assignment Two: Rules and Regulations
The second assignment will look at:
The rules of the chosen two sports.
The regulations involved in the chosen two sports.
Officiating situations that may arise in the two chosen

sports.
Grading Criteria:
P2 Describe the rules and regulations of two different individual
sports, and apply them to three different situations for each sport.
M2 Explain the application of the rules and regulations, of two
different sports, in three different situations for each sport.

Course Breakdown
Assignment Three: Self Analysis
The third assignment will look at:
Self Analysis specific to the two chosen sports.
Different forms of assessment methods.
Ways to develop and improve own performance.

Grading Criteria:
P4 Carry out a self analysis using two different methods of assessment
identifying strengths and areas for improvement in two different sports.
M3 Explain identified strengths and areas for improvement in two different
individual sports, and make suggestions relating to personal development.
D1 Analyse identified strengths and areas for improvement in two different
individual sports and justify suggestions made.

Course Breakdown
Assignment Four: Peer Analysis
The third assignment will look at:
Performance Analysis for another individual specific to the two chosen sports.
Different forms of assessment methods.
Ways to develop and improve performance of others.

Grading Criteria:
P5 Carry out a performance analysis using two different methods of assessment
identifying strengths and areas for improvement for an individual in one individual
sport.
M4 Explain identified strengths and areas for improvement of an individual in an
individual sport, and make suggestions relating to the development of that
individual .
D2 Analyse identified strengths and areas for improvement in the development of
an individual in an individual sport and justify suggestions made.
