Amish History
Amish history has its roots in the period of
reformation (1517).
One group of reformers claimed that only adults
who confessed their faith should be baptised (not
little children or infants).
These baptised people should be separate from
the larger society.

They were called Anabaptists.
Some Anabaptists under the guaidance of
Jacob Amman believed that the person who
doesnt repent sins should be completely
separated from the society.
They become to known as Amish.

Amish Lifestyle
Amish people mostly live in the North America,
Ontario in Canada and Lancaster Country
They wear plain clothes: women wear long
dresses with cape and apron and do not have any
jewellery; men wear always dark clothes and they
grow not mustache, but very long beard.
They believe that plain clothes distinct them from
others and make them modest.

Amish lifestyle (cont.)

Amish people do not use electricity! They
believe that it can lead to many temptations because
it makes connection with the world easier.
They preferred farming as a way of life. They all
live in rural environment.

Amish school
Amish children attend one-room schools
through the eighth grade and are usually taught
by a young, unmarried woman.
Then, the children have a structured learning
program supervised by their parents.
All teachers are Amish.

Amish weddings
Boys and girls begin their search for a spouse
when they turn sixteen.
Family is the core element in the Amish church,
and choosing a mate is the most important
decision in an Amishmans life.
The young man asks his girl to marry him, but
he does not give her a diamond. He may give her
china or a clock.

Amish weddings (cont.)

The couple keeps their intentions secret until
July or August. At this time the young woman
tells her family about her plans to marry.
And the bride woreblue. It is a typical color
chosen for weddings by young Amish women.
The groom wear black suite.
