NARRATIVE TEXT
Definition
Narrative text is an imaginative story to entertain people. Or narrative text is one of the English
language text that aims to tell a story that has a chronological sequence of events that are
connected.
Purpose
The purpose of narrative text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a story.
Generic structure
orientation
it is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story are introduced (person,
time and place)
complication
where the problems in the story developed.
resolution
where the problems in the story is solved.
Language features
using part action verb : climbed, turned, brought, etc.
using specific noun as pronoun of person, animal in the
story. Example : The king, the queen, etc.
using adjectives which are for noun phrase. Example : long
black, hair, two red apples, etc.
using time connectives & conjunctions to arrange the
events. Example : then, before, after, soon, etc.
using adverbs and adverbial phraseto show the location of
events. Example : here, in the mountain, ever after, etc.
using dialogue to elicit an emotional response from the
reader.
using past tense.
REPORT TEXT
Definition
A report text is a type of text that announce the result of an investigation or announce something.
The information given in a report text is very general information.
Purpose
Social function of report text is to present information about something generally to the reader.
Generic structure

their functions), qualities, habits or behavior.
Language features

EXAMPLE : CAMEL
Camel is a big and strong animal which is normally seen in desert. Generally,
there are two types of camel; Bactrian camel and Arabian camel. The first type of
camel has two humps and the second has one hump.
Camel can travel in great distances through hot and dry deserts with little food
or water. They can walk easily on the desert.
Camels are trained as means of transportation to carry people and loads on
their backs. They can also serve the people in many other ways.

HORTATORY EXPOSITION
Definition
- Hortatory exposition is a type of spoken or written text that is in tended to explain the
listeners or readers that something should or should not happen or be done.
- Hortatory exposition text can be found in scientific books, journals, magazines, newspaper
articles, academic speech or lectures, research report, etc.
- Hortatory exposition are populer among science, academic community and educated
people.
- To strengthen the explanation, the speaker or writer needs some arguments as the
fundamen fal reasons of the given idea. In other words, this kind of text can be called as
argumentation.
Purpose
To persuade the readers that something should or should not be the case or be done.
Generic structure
1. Thesis : statement or announcement of issue concern
2. Argument : reasons for concern that will lead to recommendation.
3. Recommendation : statement of what should or should not happen or be done based on the
given arguments.

SPOOF TEXT
Definition
Spoof text is a text which tells the events of the past with an unexpected ending and funny.
Purpose
To entertain the readers with funny story.
Generic structures

Orientation
introduction of the participant of the story, where it happens and when it happens. By giving
the orientation, reader will recognize the story.

Events
tells about the chronological of the story. Several events are explored in chronological way
which able to arrange the story read nicely.

Twist
an unpredictable plot in the end of the story which amuse the reader. Readers even didnt
predict before that it would be.

POSTER
The definition :
A poster is any piece of printed paper designed to be attached to a wall or vertical surface.
Typically posters in clude both textual and graphie elemements, although a poster may be either
wholly graphical or wholly text.
The function :
The main function of a poster is to capture a moving audience with a message. When designing a
poster, plan its design carefully. You will have a short amount of time to attract and hold your
readers attention. Think about the one aspect of the information that must convey the message
and plan your design around that.
*poster consists of Heading, Picture & Message.
*The tenses used in Simple Present Tense, and it also uses
persuasive content.
Structure of poster :
picture : it illustrate the situation of things or people. The function of picture is to make the
poster more interesting.
message : to give instruction, warning or advise to whom the poster is for.
EXAMPLES
A poster should :
o Have type large enouge to be viewed to 10-15 times your format width.
o Have a simple and clear layout so your reader knows where to find the information.
o Have art that is related to the message.
o
Include all important information such as date, time, location, contact name and telephone
number.
have a dominate elements such as a headlineor image that will quickly catch your readers
eye.
BANNER
A banner is a flag or other piece of cloth bearing a symbol, logo, slogan or other message.
