ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH

HEALTH PROGRAM (AYHP)

ADOLESCENCE

the period in life when an individual is no


longer a child but not an adult as well.
A transitional stage in life, living in critical
time of rapid physical, mental,
emotional, sexual, social and spiritual
development.

The Adolescents Youth and Heath


Development Programs
was established in 2001 under the oversight of the
Department of Health in partnership with other
government agencies with adolescent concerns and
other stakeholders.
The program is targeting youth ages 1024, and the
program provides comprehensive implementation
guidelines for youth-friendly comprehensive health
care and services on multiple levelsnational,
regional, provincial/city, and municipal.

General Objective:
Contribute to policies and programs that will assist
government to attain population growth and distribution
consistent with economic activities and sustainable
development.

Specific Objectives:
Reduce the incidence of pregnancy among 15-19 age group;
Reduce the incidence of early sexual involvement and early
marriages;
Reduce the incidence of other reproductive health problems that
includes sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS,
particularly the reduction of HIV positive cases among young
males; and
Reduce the incidence of physical and sexual violence and other
forms of violence among the young people, particularly among
married young females ages 15-24.

Advantage:
As an adolescent and a student nurse, I am happy
that a program exists wherein the youth are
recognized as valuable and integral resources in
the development of all health-related programs and
policies.
It promotes increased awareness and public
support for the unique contributions youth can and
do make to healthy communities.
