THE DEAD MAY

with Machine Learning

RETURN

Do you miss your grandmother who

died a few years back?

Do you miss her so much that you wish

you could talk with her once again?

Many of us have come across such

thoughts, sometimes in the middle of a
dark night or even under broad day
light. But how many of us have believed
in our wish of bringing the our loved
one back from the dead?

What if someday you log into your

Facebook account and find out that a
deceased friend of yours has send you
a Good Morning text? Will you reply?
Or will you shut down your computer
and quit the social media? Sounds
spooky, right?

Bringing Back the Dead

Currently, the researchers at the

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) and Ryerson University are working
together to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in
order to bridge the gap between life and
after-life. According to Dr. Hossein
Rahnama, a member at the MIT Media Lab,
even after a person dies, his personality,
opinions and thoughts will continue to
survive in the digital world.

ALGORITHMS ARE IMMORTAL

According to the researchers, Machine Learning can be
applied to the data we produce everyday and transfer these
thoughts to a computer. In turn, these data fed computers
will act as our virtual entity; being able to talk like us,
replicating our beliefs and eventually surviving our demise.

It is estimated that these algorithms will be able to share

posts on
social media just as if we do or prefer to do.

COMMUNICATING WITH THE DEAD

What makes it a more interesting concept is that our digital

entities will be able to communicate with the world in the
exact same way as we do, and more importantly, it will learn
new things that will add to the knowledge of our digital
immortal entity.

Again, the reading habits of the virtual identity will

depend on

Scientists are developing systems that will

analyse huge data consisting of the works
of the eminent historical personalities.
Such an experiment, if succeeds, will allow
the ordinary people to communicate with
the dead legends. For instance, you may
ask the digital identity of Albert Einstein
about his thoughts on alien life.

Again, since the system will be data

driven, sometimes the answers may
repeat itself depending on the questions
asked.

THE WAIT IS NOT OVER YET!

Although, significant improvements are

being made in the field of AI and Machine
Learning, researchers think that such a
scenario of digitising a dead person may
not be implemented before 2045-2050.

The reason behind this is that the

past generation did not have enough
scope of digital communication,
which restricts the amount of data
available to feed computers in order
to replicate a digitised version of
them.

Todays modern era is witnessing a

significant technological revolution.
The amount of data available today
will make it easier to preserve our
identity in the digital world, which
will live forever (literally).
