1. SITE PREPARATION FOR

RECEIVING FORMWORK:
For stacking or storing of formwork
at site, ideally the area should be:
Close to the work site
Located where the formwork can
be monitored / controlled.
The selected area should be
leveled properly
Proper barricading all around the
area is needed with a security
room.

15

2. PRE CONCRETE
ACTIVITY:

16

2. RECEIPT OF FORMWORK AT
SITE:

Formwork will be received at site in terms

of lots, with big containers.

An accurate check of formwork is needed

against the packing list after arriving at site.
Unload the containers and stack
components by code and size.
Care should be taken that while stacking the
sticker on which codes are printed should
appear on one side of the panels for easy &
quick identification.
If any, discrepancies should be recorded and
should be reported.

17

3. FORMWORK START UP:

LEVEL SURVEY:
A concrete level survey should be carried out
over the slab and remedial work should be
carried out prior to erecting of wall panels.

High spots on the concrete in the place where

the props will be positioned should be chipped
off to the proper level.

Low spots on the concrete in the place where

the props will be positioned should be packed to
the proper level using plywood or timber.

SETTING OUT:
Only the most up to date approved shell
drawings supplied by Mivan formwork design
should be used for setting out.

Ensure slab is clean and free from obstruction

before setting out.

An permanent ink line should be used for

setting out so that it should visible even after
rain or cleaning.

18

4. KICKER FIXING:
Before erecting wall
formwork, 150mm x
100mm timber kicker or
stays should be nailed to
the concrete slab.
The kicker should be
fixed internally and
externally with respect
to the grid mark of the
building.
On the external face, the
kicker should be perfectly
level with a tolerance of
+ or 3mm.
After checking all
necessary dimensions
reinforcement work for
the walls should be
started.

5. ERRECTION OF WALL
FORMWORK:

After completion of
reinforcement checking
outer shutter should be
fixed on the kicker.

The face and sides of panels

should be clean and coated
with an approved releasing
agent.
Plumb line to be checked on
the 1st panel and then the
next panel will be attached
with wedge and pin system
along with wall ties.
Use only 2 pins and wedges
to connect the formwork at
this stage as the same will
be removed later to insert
the wall ties.
Wall ties should be coated
with the releasing agent
before fixing to formwork.
Fit wall ties through slots in
the wall formwork and
secure in position with pins
and wedges.
Pre-wrapped corrugated
PVC sleeves are placed over
the wall ties in order to
facilitate easy removal of
ties during deshuttering.

6. ERRECTION OF BEAM
FORMWORK:
Pin a prop head to one end of a beam
soffit.
Fit the prop length to the prop head with
the shoe of the prop facing the length of
the beam.
Lift the beam soffit into position and pin
to the column collar.
Beam sides are then fixed to the beam
soffit with pin and wedges.
Over the beam sides soffit length and
soffit corner pieces are fixed.

21

CONT
EXTERNAL BEAM SIDES:
External beam sides are held
vertically and straightly by
using dywidag tie rod (T).

20mm dia hole is drilled in

both internal and external
beam sides at approximated
distance 1m c/c.

Insert a dywidag T Rod

form the inside of beam
through a PVC sleeve fitted
with PVC cones and continue
through the external beam
side.

Steel soldiers are positioned

over the tie rod before fitting
a 100mm dia dywidag nut.

Tighten the nut until the

beam side is vertical and
straight.

7. ERRECTION OF DECK
FORMWORK:

After fixing soffit lengths and

soffit corners, a deck panel
with a releasing agent applied
to the side and end rails,
should be pinned to the corner.

Beams to support the deck

formwork can be assembled on
the concrete slab.

Lay the beam components on

the floor with end beam (EB)
connected to deck prop (DP)
and this DP connected to mid
beam (MB) and again this MB
connected to another DP.

All
components
are
held
together by pinning with beam
bars (BB) through mid and end
beams with 132mm deck beam
pins.

Fit the prop length to preassembled beam.

CONT

Using prop lengths, lift the beam into

position.
The beam is held in place by inserting a
pin from the beam through the end rail of
the deck panel already fixed to the corner.
The first panel in a row has to be pinned
to the suffit length and the deck beam
The second panel should be pinned to the
first deck panel only.
To this second panel third panel is fixed. In
this way number of rows are fixed
simultaneously to form the slab top.

25

8. SETTING
KICKERS:

Usually 2 levels of
kickers are required,
One coming off the
previous floor to
which the wall
formwork is fixed,
Second which is fixed
to the top of the wall
formwork which
forms the perimeter
of the slab.
These kickers stays in
place after
concreting and is
used to start the wall
formwork for the
next floor level.

CONNECTING KICKERS
TO THE WALL
PANELS:
Kickers are cleaned and
oiled with releasing
agent before fixing.
Kickers are
manufactured with a
26mm x 16.5mm
vertical slotted hole.
Prior to concreting, a
16mm dia MS bolt is
fixed to the kicker
tight to the bottom of
the slot.
The kickers aligned with
the steel soldiers fixed in
place using dywidag tie
rod through the cast in
sleeves.

9. ERRECTION OF WALL MOUNTED WORKING

PLATFORM:

For fixing wall mounted

scaffold bracket, drill
20mm dia holes to
position the PVC sleeves.
After casting this hole is
used for fixing the
scaffold bracket to the
building.
The center of the hole
should be 300mm from
the bottom of the kicker.
With the tie rod provided
with the bracket fix the
bracket to the wall
through PVC sleeve.
A person from building
inside portion should
tighten the licking nut.
During this operation,
safety netting should
also be fixed at same
level.
Following this operation,
placing the deck and
handrails should also be
started.

10. FINAL PRE CONCRETE

ACTIVITY:

Before concreting, gap

between the slab surface
and wall panels should be
packed with cement mortar.

Lining of wall panels should

be done.

Internal dimensions should

be rechecked.

Door spacers should be fixed

properly.

Verticality of walls should be

checked.

Vertical and horizontal

bulkheads should be
rechecked.

Vertical and horizontal stop

ends positions should be
decided and fixed.

3. DURING CONCRETING:
Things over which care should be taken during
concreting are:
Pins/wedges dislodging due to vibration.
Beam / deck props adjacent to drop areas
slipping due to vibration.
Ensure bracing at special areas stays
intact
Over-spill at window openings.
Voids forming below windows or box-out
due to lack of vibration or air pockets. This
can be checked by tapping the formwork
with a wooden mallet.
30

4. POST CONCRTE ACTIVITY:

1. STRIKE WALL
FORMWORK:
Deshuttering of vertical surface to be done after
12 hrs and slab, beam bottom after 40-50 hrs
keeping the prop in position.

Before deshuttering, numbering the plates as per

our required no which will be convenient to the
workers.

Before striking wall formwork ensure following are

removed:

Timber stays nailed to the concrete slabs

Timber wedges behind rockers and walers.

Excess grout behind rockers and internal corners,

All the pins and wedges from the panels identified

for striking.
31

CONT..

Panel pullers are used to pull

away the panel for the
concrete and adjacent panel.

Remove all wall ties using the

wall tie puller.

Wall tie sleeves is also to be

removed with help of nose
player and the same is
reused.

The wall tie holes should be

grouted with cement mortar
for the internal walls and with
a water proofing agent
grouting should be done on
the external walls.

The external holes should be

filled properly from the
outside working platform
before removing the bracket.

All the deshuttered wall

panels should be shifted to
next respective level.

32

2. STRIKE BEAM FORMWORK:

Normally beam sides are
struck after 12 hours.
Beam soffits may have to
stay for 36 hours before
striking.
3. STRIKE KICKER
FORMWORK:
Only the kicker pinned
to the bottom of the
wall panels should be
struck.
The top kicker will be
used for starting the
wall formwork on the
next floor level.
Once the wall panels
are removed,
disconnect the lower
kicker by turning the
bolt anti clockwise.
This leaves the kicker
free to be taken off and
can be reused.DESHUTTERED
DROP MATERIALS

33

4. STRIKE DECK
FORMWORK:

Deck panels
should be struck
after 36 hours.
Striking of deck
panels begins
with the removal
of a section of the
end beam.
All pins and
wedges should be
removed which
connects deck
panels to the end
beam.
34

CONT..

Disconnect and
remove the beam
bars connecting the
end beam to the mid
beams.
After removing all
pins and wedges, by
using panel puller the
bond between deck
and the concrete
