THE CONSTITUTION OF THE


REPUBLIC OF THE
PHILIPPINES
It was approved on Feb. 8, 1935 by the
Philippine legislature and ratified on May
14, 1935 by the Filipino people. It ceased
to operate during the Japanese
occupation but became effective upon
the reestablishment of the
Commonwealth Government on 1945.

The 1935 Constitution had flaws. The new and
grave problems arising from an increasing
population, urgently pressing for solution,
authorized the holding of a constitutional
convention in 1971. It was approved by
Citizens Assemblies and ratified by
Presidential proclamation no. 1102
on Jan. 17, 1973.
