BODY LANGUAGE

Body

language

is

kind

of

Non

verbal

communication.

Here thoughts, intentions or feelings are expressed by

physical behaviors, such as facial expressions, body
posture ,gestures, eye movement, touch and the use
of space.

Whats your body telling you ?

BODY LANGUAGE: The gestures, poses
movements, and expressions that a person uses to
communicate.

55% NON VERBAL ( body language )

BODY LANGUAGE
1. FACIAL EXPRESSION:-

Facial expression is integral when

expressing emotions through the body.

Combinations of eyes, eyebrows, lips,

nose and cheek movements help form
different moods of an individual .

BODY LANGUAGE
2. BODY POSTURES:-

Emotions can also be detected through body

postures.

Research has shown that body postures are

more

accurately

emotion

recognized

when

an

is compared with a different or

neutral emotion.

Sitting and standing postures also indicate

ones emotion.

BODY LANGUAGE
3. GESTURES:

Gestures are movements made with body

parts (e.g. hands, arms ,fingers ,head ,legs )

In a discussion when one stands with folded

arms, this is normally not a welcoming
gesture.

It could mean that the person is close

minded and is most likely unwilling to
listen to the speakers viewpoint.

BODY LANGUAGE
4. HANDSHAKES:

Handshakes are regular greeting rituals.

Commonly done on meeting, greeting, offering
congratulations or after the completion of an
agreement.

They usually indicate the level of confidence

and emotion level in people.

Studies

have

also

categorized

several

handshakes styles which includes the finger

squeeze, the bone crusher, the limp fish.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:1. TO BOOST YOUR
CONFIDENCE,ASSUME A POWER POSE

Simply holding your body in

expansive high power poses
(leaning back with hands behind with
legs and arms stretched wide open)
It stimulates stress hormone which
increases power and dominance
which helps you to appear confident
and leads to higher tolerance for risk.

The effective use of body language plays

a key role in communication:2. TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION,
LOOK LIKE YOURE LISTENING:

If you want people to speak up, dont

multitask while they speak.

Avoid like checking your messages,

checking your watch or how the other
participants are reacting. Instead focus
by making eye contact with the
speaker.

Leaning forward ,nodding are other

non verbal ways to show youre
engaged and paying attention.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:3. TO CONNECT INSTANTLY WITH
SOMEONE , SHAKE HAND:

Touch is the most powerful non verbal

communication. It creates a human bond.

In the workplace, the handshaking tradition

makes a lasting and positive impression.

People are two times more likely to remember

you if you shake hands with them.

People also react to those with whom they

shake hands by being more open and friendly.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:4. TO STIMULATE GOOD FEELINGS ,
SMILE:

A genuine smile not only stimulates your

own sense of well being, also tells those
around you that you are approachable,
cooperative and trustworthy .

Smile directly influences how other people

respond to you.

When you smile at someone, they also smile

in return.

The smile you get back actually changes

that persons emotional state in a positive
way.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:5. TO SHOW AGREEMENT, MIRROR
EXPRESSIONS AND
POSTURES:

When someone will unconsciously imitate

your body language, its their way of non
verbally saying that they will agree with
you.

Mirroring starts by observing a persons

facial and body gestures and then letting
your body take on similar expressions and
postures.

Doing so will the other person feel

understood and accepted.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:6. TO IMPROVE YOUR SPEECH,
USE YOUR HANDS:

Gesture is integrally linked to speech, it

can actually power up our thinking.

When gesture is incorporated while

delivering , verbal content improves.

It is found that gesturing helps you form

clearer thoughts and speak in tighter
sentences with more declarative
language .

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:7. FOR TRUTH, WATCH PEOPLES
FEET:

When people try to control their body language,

they focus primarily on facial expressions, body
postures, and hand gestures.

Under stress ,people will often display nervousness

and anxiety through increased foot movements.

Greater success for a persons real emotional state is

done by watching their feet movements.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:8. TO SOUND AUTHORITATIVE, KEEP
YOUR VOICE DOWN:

Before speaking allow your voice to relax into

its optimal pitch.

Your voice should not rise at the end of the

sentences as if you are asking a question or
seeking approval.

Your voice should start on one note, rise in pitch

through the sentence and drop back at the end.

The effective use of body language plays a

key role in communication:9. TO IMPROVE MEMORY, UNCROSS
YOUR ARMS AND LEGS:

It was found that when a group of

volunteers attended a lecture and sat with
unfolded arms and legs, they remember 38%
more than a group that attended the same
lecture and sat with folded arms and legs.

To improve your retention, uncross your

arms and legs.

Check how is your body posture.?

Is it a good body posture..?
Body language is the communication
that says all..
