SCANNER
An input device that scans (reads) the
image as a series of dots and
introduces the information into the
computers memory.

INSIDE A SCANNER
Rotating lamps
The scanner operates by using 3
rotating lamps which has a different
colored filter
Colored filter
It has 3 different colors: red, green
and blue

Software for scanner
OCR software
OCR (Optical Character Recognition)
OCR software let you easily convert images,
such as digital photographs, scanned
documents, printed books, etc. into text

TYPES OF SCANNER
Flatbed scanner
Slide scanner
Handheld scanner

Flatbed scanner
A scanner with a glass scanning
surface on which objects are placed;
similar to a photocopier

How a flatbed scanner works

a flatbed scanner see images and converts them into
electronic codes.
The scanning unit moves across the image to be
scanned.
It reads the image as a series of dots and then generates
the digitized image.
Digitized image is sent to computer and stored as a
file.

SLIDE SCANNER
Illuminates the slide and projects the image onto a
digital scanning element which converts the image to
a digital photographic format like .jpeg or .gif.

Handheld scanner
A manual device that is dragged across the
surface of the image to be scanned.

OCR(OPTICAL CHARACTER
RECOGNITIO)
OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. It is
one such system that allows us to scan printed,
typewritten or hand written text (numerals, letters or
symbols) and/or convert scanned image in to a
computer process able format, either in the form of a
plain text or a word document.

Later the converted documents can be edited, used or

reused in other documents. Thus the documents
become editable.
OCR is used when recreating a similar document in
paper as a document in electronic form takes more
time.

PAPER BASED INTERACTION

OCR is used when recreating a similar document in paper as
a document in electronic form takes more time.
Using this computers try to deal with paper
documents as they deal with other forms of computer
media.
So the paper would be as readable by the computer
as magnetic and optical disk

CONTD

Paper Based Interaction aspires to create unique and novel set of

technologies to enable new types of interaction between paper
and the digital world with a focus on simplifying end user
experiences

MEMORY
In computing, memory refers to the computer
hardware devices used to store information for
immediate use in a computer.
There are two types of memories:
Short-term memory
Long-term memory

Memory types
SHORT-TERM MEMORY:
This short-term memory disappears when the
computer is turned off .
Ex :RAM:- RAM is your system's short-term
memory. Whenever your computer performs
calculations, it temporarily stores the data in the
RAM until it is needed.

Memory types
LONG-TERM MEMORY:
This long-term memory doesnt
disappears when the computer is turned off.
It is a system for permanently storing, managing,
and retrieving information for later use.
Ex: HARDDRIVE,CD
