History:

1959: The Carrefour supermarket


company is set up by the Fournier,
Badin and Defforey families who run a
discount supermarket in Annecy.
The first Carrefour hypermarket opens in
Sainte-Genevive-des-bois, with a floor area
of 2,500 sq.m, 12 checkouts and 400 parking
spaces.

1975: Carrefour opens its first hypermarket in Brazil

HISTORY

Carrefour acquires a majority stake in Pi


Surgels. 1995:

opens its first hypermarkets in Italy and


Turkey.

Carrefour opens its first hypermarkets in Chin

1997: Carrefour opens its first hypermarkets in


Singapore and Poland. Promods acquires the
supermarket chain Catteau. Carrefour introduces
the brand names, specializing in rare or little
known traditional products, and Carrefour Bio, a
certified organic line of food products

1999: Carrefour and Promods merge to create the largest


European food retailing group (second largest worldwide).

Carrefour acquires 85 supermarkets in Brazil.

2005: Strengthening of the Groups positions:


Poland: acquisition of 12 hypermarkets Hypernova
from Ahold.

2006: In Taiwan, with the integration of Carrefour


Tesco, in July, Carrefour now has 45 hypermarkets.

2008 First Carrefour market supermarket opens in


Milan

2012 Carrefour launches the Guaranteed lowest price campaign in


French hypermarkets

2014: Creation of the Carmila company aimed at enhancing the


shopping centres adjacent to Carrefour hypermarkets in France,
Spain, and Italy.

2015 Carrefour continues to develop its drive service
