What is Peak?
Festival season around Thanksgiving, Black Friday & Christmas. Most important time
for all retailers in USA.
Apparel & departmental retailers like HBC expect no delays in any business process
while managing high data volumes
across all the banners and stores of HBC

This period is a great time to get new customers and by giving them great choice, availability and service, we have
the best opportunity to ensure they keep returning to us over the year. This is the time when retailers have their
highest sales and profits.

LT Thanksgiving/Black Friday SMART POS Sales


Processing Notes
This is to recap what team discussed in meeting on 11/9 for Lord & Taylor Thanksgiving/Black Friday POS and Sales processing:

Stores on SMART POS will allow Associates to continue to ring uninterrupted until
closing on Thanksgiving evening some stores open until 2:00 AM. A forced
close will NOT occur at midnight.
All transactions rung from opening on Thanksgiving Day until 2:00 AM 11/25 will
be considered Thanksgiving Day Sales dated 11/24. ISP will not change the date
after midnight.
Operations would not typically run LT EOD batch processes until all stores have
closed, so normal procedure would dictate they would not run LT EOD processes
until after 2:00 AM Thanksgiving evening.
Business understands that a late batch run due to extended store hours means
delay in some reporting/systems the following day.
In order to accommodate the late close, John Gaglio has some parameters that
need to be set. He has done this process in years past and is very familiar. He
will set up the Latest Close Time parameters to reflect the extended hours. He
may also adjust the Inactive Minutes parameter from 15 to 30 minutes.

As discussed on 11/10, LT monitors item and pricing download files to the ISP daily.
TCS under John Baughs direction have been trained on this and are monitoring
daily in conjunction with Ops. If there are any issues with downloads they will be
addressed timely, business notifications sent if necessary.

Proactive Monitoring and Reporting


All Areas

Proactively monitor the critical jobs and processes.

Stores

Ensure the nightly processes, that affect application availability during extended store working hours on
Thanksgiving and Black Friday, are re-scheduled as appropriate.

Monitor transaction volumes and any slowness in the system (long running jobs etc.)

All executive reports and any dependent batch jobs to be monitored closely.

Middleware (Oracle SOA and MQ/MB)

Proactively monitor

Resource usage, alerts, hung threads, open connections.

Critical MB Interfaces, OMS(composite) services which is recently went live for Saks and OFF5 banner.

Out of Memory, MQ Queue manager down, Broker down, Database down issues.

Prepare Capacity Planning report every 3 hours for all the Production Servers to monitor the Disk Usage

Proactively monitor Memory and CPU usage for critical production servers and will be reported on an hourly basis
