Message may pop up in case of a mismatch between BTS SW

version and Site Manager version.
Mismatch can be in either direction BTS SW could be newer
than Site Manager SW, or else it could be significantly older.
For this reason, it may be useful to have several minor versions
of the same Site Manager installed on ones PC.

Configuring CMP and CR server IP addresses
A Certificate Management Protocol (CMP) is used to fetch the CA signed BTS certificate and CA
certificates automatically and to perform it in a secure manner.
To do so BTS must be configured with:
Reference Number (RefNum) and Pre Share Key (PSK).
CMP server IP address and TCP port number.
Certificate repository (CR) IP address and TCP port number.
RefNum and PSK are used for the initial encryption of CMP messages between the CMP client and
CMP server. At the initial configuration these values shall be made out-of-band and using the Site
Element Manager the values are downloaded over a local connection.
The CMP server IP address and TCP port number is configured using the Element Manager or by
deploying a BTS Site Configuration File or via the NMS. This con-figuration is used by the BTS
embedded CMP client to exchange messages with the CMP server.
The CR IP address and TCP port number is configured using the Element Manager, by deploying a
BTS Site Configuration File or via the NMS. This configuration is used by the BTS embedded CMP
client to retrieve the CA certificate from the certificate repository (CR). The CA certificate retrieval
uses the LDAPv3 protocol.
PSK and RefNum must be generated in the same CMP server which will be used to get BTS and CA
certificates. These values also need to be made available for the CMP server in order to allow
establishment of a secure CMP message exchange.
Configuring CMP and CR server IP addresses and PSK and RefNum triggers taking CMP into use
for this particular BTS. This causes the creation of a new private and public key pair, followed by a
CMP Initialize sequence to obtain a valid and CA signed BTS certificate as well as the CA certificate
to be used by the BTS.

LDAP server Contains the database of remote-user password information. If LDAP server
is not configured, remote users are authenticated only through the local user name and
password.

CMP Certificate Management Protocol is used to provide a secure, encrypted (IPsec)

connection for remote users over the DCN network.

CMP server Manages the security certificates for remote users. A certificate is a publicprivate key pair (IPsec) + encryption algorithm + signature from an encryption authority.

Certificate Repository Needs to be used along with CMP server if certificates are to be
managed (downloaded) automatically instead of manually.

TLS for OAM interface Transport Layer Security protocol uses encryption (IPsec) to
provide a secure OAM (DCN) channel to RNC (OMS) and secure file transfer over the
DCN. IPsec tunnel extends from WBTS to OMS, passing through OMU. By default, the
security level is set to Probing, auto-matching with the far end.

BTS firewall Implements the IP Filtering feature (to be configured on a later page).
default, ping and traceroute commands are enabled to pass through the firewall.

Ethernet Switching, cont.

RAN1769: QoS aware Ethernet Switching feature
Introduces QoS classification, VLAN-awareness, and shaping on the egress ports of the
Ethernet switch (WBTS) for several transport sub-modules in Flexi WCDMA BTS, this feature
provides QoS aware Ethernet (L2) switching between:
3 ports of FTIA, FTJA, FTLB sub-modules
2 ports of FTIB sub-module
4 ports of FTFB sub-module
For the FTIB, FTFB, FTJA, and FTIA the overall switching capability is 260 Mbps in the
downlink direction, and 100 Mbps in the uplink direction; for the FTLB the overall switching
capability is 1000 Mbps and 615Mbps in the downlink and uplink respectively. Those values
include both the internal traffic of the WBTS, and external switched traffic of the BTS.
QoS Classification
The QoS aware Ethernet switching functionality, depending on the unit type, supports four or
six QoS priority levels, which maps to four queues for each egress port (six for FTLB). It can
be configured where the indication for the QoS priorities can be taken from:
IPv4 DiffServ Code Points (DSCP - 6-bit value)
Ethernet p-bits according to IEEE 802.1p (3-bit Priority Code Point field)
Both, the PCP-to-Queue mapping and DSCP-to-Queue mapping are configurable. For the
non-IP frames such as ARP, Ethernet OAM, or Synchronous Ethernet when DSCP to- Queue
mapping is used, and for the untagged frames when PCP-to-Queue mapping is used is, it can
be configured to which queue those frames are classified. By default the non-IP/not-tagged
traffic gets the higher priority.

Ethernet Switching, cont.

VLAN-aware Switching
With the RAN1769: QoS Aware Ethernet Switching feature, the WBTS can operate as VLANaware switch according to the IEEE 802.1Q standard. If the WBTS is VLANenabled, the
switch forwards the frames marked with the certain VLAN ID from one port to another port
only if those ports belong to the same VLAN as the VLAN ID in the frame. VLAN membership
of an Ethernet port is assigned manually on a port-by-port basis(static VLAN membership). By
default, the VLAN-aware mode is disabled. In the VLAN aware mode, it can be determined
which type of frames can be received at a particular port. Either all types of frames can be
received: tagged, untagged, priority-tagged, or only tagged frames can be received; in this
case received untagged and priority-tagged frames are discarded.
For each port a port default priority is specified, which is used as priority for untagged and
only priority-tagged received frames. In ingress direction, the port default priority is used as
priority for untagged frames; in egress direction it is added as priority for priority tagged
frames.
If the BTS-switch is VLAN disabled, the switch forwards packets among ports, independently
of the VLAN-tag of the packet. Tagged, untagged, and priority-tagged frames can
ingress/egress all ports. QoS processing is still supported, including classification from PCP. If
the switch operates in VLAN-unaware mode, it is strongly recommended to avoid usage of
VLANs at any side of the switch. Separation of different VLAN traffic is not possible anymore,
leading to security issues and unexpected behavior of the network.

Ethernet Link OAM

Link OAM can be activated for monitoring any point-to-point link. Therefore both local
and peer nodes are to support link OAM and the functionality is to be activated.
The following functionalities are supported for Link OAM:
Peer discovery
Remote Fault Indication
Link Monitoring
Remote Loop Back
When Link OAM is activated, it allows the operator at a first glance to check if the link
to the peer is faulty. After basic connectivity is fulfilled, it is checked if the peer
supports link OAM and its capabilities.

RAN1880: Ethernet OAM in BTS
Link Layer OAM
Link Layer OAM (IEEE 802.3, clause 57) operates at a single link, and mainly targets an
"Ethernet in a first mile" application. WCDMA BTS fully supports IEEE 802.3, clause 57:
Discovery: Identify peer device and its OAM capabilities.
Remote Failure Indication: Mechanism to exchange fault information to the peer.
Includes Dying gasp, link fault, critical events.
Remote Loopback: Used to check the quality of the links.
Link Monitoring: Event notification including diagnosis information (threshold alarms).
Since Link OAM is a point-to-point protocol, the network scenarios are reduced to
simple one Event Notification.
At the WBTS site, link OAM can be used between the WBTS physical Ethernet port and
the WBTS site switch or UNI.
During commissioning it is possible to set the peer node in a loopback mode, which
allows checking if the traffic is being correctly sent and looped back to the local node,
and as well check statistics (errored seconds, errored frames, and so on) during that
time. This allows to identify errors and packet drops in the line.
During loopback no regular traffic will be transmitted, so that this functionality
shall only be used for testing purposes.

Service Layer OAM
Service Layer OAM (IEEE 802.1ag / ITU-T Y.1731) tackles the end-to-end Ethernet
connectivity and service guarantees.
WCDMA BTS fully supports IEEE 802.1ag:
Ethernet Continuity Check: Reports loss of continuity between two MEPs
(Maintenance Association End Point), within a MA (Maintenance Association) or
unintended connectivity.
Ethernet Loopback: On demand OAM function. Verifies the connectivity
between two MEPs or a MEP with a MIP.
Ethernet LinkTrace: On demand OAM function. It can be used for fault
localization WCDMA BTS supports the following functions of ITU-T Y.1731:
Ethernet Alarm Indication Signal: Used to suppress alarms after detection.
Ethernet Remote Defect Indication: Used by a MEP to communicate its peer
MEP that a defect condition has been encountered.
Service OAM has its main area of application in an end-to-end service monitoring
and fault localization. A particular service can be monitored between nodes which
are interconnected through a pure L2 network (meaning that no IP layer is used).
In this case, Service OAM is only supported at the WBTS, so that the network
scenarios comprise from the WBTS to the RNC site switch or router.

PHB is per-hop behavior defined by RFC 2475 which is used

in differentiated services (DiffServ) or multiprotocol label
switching (MPLS).
It defines the policy and priority applied to a packet when
traversing a hop (such as a router) in a DiffServ network
The Per-Hop Behavior (PHB) is indicated by encoding a 6-bit
value called the Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP)
into the 8-bit Differentiated Services (DS) field of the IP Packet
Header.

Quality of Service, cont.

Traffic management mechanisms
DiffServ is a coarse-grained, class-based mechanism for traffic management. In contrast,
IntServ is a fine-grained, flow-based mechanism.
DiffServ operates on the principle of traffic classification, where each data packet is placed
into a limited number of traffic classes, rather than differentiating network traffic based on the
requirements of an individual flow. Each router on the network is configured to differentiate
traffic based on its class. Each traffic class can be managed differently, ensuring preferential
treatment for higher-priority traffic on the network.
While DiffServ does recommend a standardized set of traffic classes,[2] the DiffServ
architecture does not incorporate predetermined judgments of what types of traffic should be
given priority treatment. DiffServ simply provides a framework to allow classification and
differentiated treatment. The standard traffic classes (discussed below) serve to simplify
interoperability between different networks and different vendors' equipment.
DiffServ relies on a mechanism to classify and mark packets as belonging to a specific class.
DiffServ-aware routers implement Per-Hop Behaviors (PHBs), which define the packetforwarding properties associated with a class of traffic. Different PHBs may be defined to offer,
for example, low-loss or low-latency.

IP Filtering

IP-based filtering is a security feature designed to restrict

access of locally connected hosts towards the data
communication network (DCN), and from external hosts
to locally connected IP devices (BBU, RET, etc.)
By default, traffic between the local management port
(LMP) and DCN network is discarded, while all types of
traffic between the BTS or TRS (transmission unit) and
DCN network are allowed.
Restricted mode for LMP off is grey
means it is possible to connect RNC
from LMP port with the remote
connection mode.

48

CT1078CEN04GLA0

Nokia Solutions and Networks 2016

IP Filtering, cont.
IP Filtering feature implements access protection to the Flexi WCDMA BTS's transmission.
It is possible to filter IP traffic based on source and destination IP addresses and TCP/UDP
port numbers.
IP traffic supervision is extended to all packet flows in WCDMA BTS. It introduces a new
mode to define more selectively the access to/from IP DCN.
The operator can select between the following modes, independently for each of the three
packet flows:
- In unrestricted mode, all IP traffic is allowed to pass through.
- In restricted mode, no IP traffic is allowed to pass through.
- In restricted mode with exceptions, the IP routing function validates the source and
destination information of each incoming IP packet against the configuration in the related
table. IP packets not matching the criteria are discarded.
Whether only IP addresses or ports as well need to match is a matter of configuration. It is
possible to configure IP filter rules for Flexi BTS locally or remotely with site configuration
files or element manager.
IP-based filtering is a security feature designed to restrict access of locally connected hosts
towards the data communication network (DCN). This technique allows communication
between public IPs used in the BTS and a remote network to be based on the rule sets
configured in the BTS. The transmission sub-module blocks all other traffic coming from or
going to the remote network.
By default, traffic between the local management port (LMP) and DCN network is discarded
and all types of traffic between the BTS/transmission sub-module (TRS) and DCN network
are allowed.

Introduction to the feature
This feature allows the distribution of the license keys in an automatic way from NetAct
License Manager to the Flexi WBTSs. According to its configuration data, Flexi WBTS
autonomously requests missing license files from NetAct License Manager.
In the past, the operator had to assign licenses individually to each Flexi WBTS. With this
new solution, License Management automatically follows the Configuration Management.
Activation of the license-based feature leads automatically to license file assignment. The
license file is automatically taken from the license pool (provided by NetAct License
Manager) and then distributed to the Flexi WBTS that initiated the request.
This functionality can be disabled with the Flexi WBTS configuration parameter.

HSDPA Settings page
1. Traditional HSDPA settings take effect only if System Module is Rel.1 HW
(FSMB)
2. HSDPA capacity sets take effect if System Module is Rel.2 HW (supporting
flexible BB pooling) capacity is per BTS (1 or 2 FSMs)
BTS processing set 1 supports capacity of 32 users and 7.2 Mbps throughput
(= 1 step)
BTS processing set 2 supports capacity of 72 users and 21.0 Mbps throughput
(= 3 steps)
BTS processing set 3 supports capacity of 72 users and 84.0 Mbps throughput
(=12 steps)
Set 2 and set 3 licenses can be combined and override set 1 licenses
3. HSDPA throughput is calculated and distributed to the schedulers, in 7.2
Mbps steps
up to 35 steps, for a total of 252 Mbps (for 3 cells?) (with 16-QAM or 64-QAM)
Maximum total throughput for MIMO is 378 Mbps and for Dual Cell it is 504 Mbps
In all cases, maximum number of users is 864

HSUPA Settings

In case Defaults in Use is selected for HSUPA Resource Allocation,

baseband resources for HSUPA are allocated dynamically.
In case of user-defined resource allocation, baseband resources are
allocated statically based on number of HSUPA users and Minimum
Baseband Decoding Capacity in Mbps.

HSUPA Settings, cont.

HSUPA Settings page
1. Frequency Domain Equalizer captures energy from all multipaths and efficiently
removes HSUPA signals own inter-symbol interference (only if System Module is Rel.2
HW)
Enables up to double HSUPA data rates compared to traditional RAKE receiver, supports
up to 11 Mbps UL with use of 16-QAM
HSUPA Interference Cancellation Receiver removes interference due to other HSUPA
users in the same cell from reception of UEs HSUPA signal
Combined with HSUPA 16-QAM and FDE, can achieve peak UL data rates up to 11 Mbps
2. HSUPA resource allocation
Default CQI (channel quality indicator) value for HS cell FACH state (0-35)
FACH (Forward Access Channel) is a high-speed common channel used to carry signaling
messages and small amounts of user-plane data
With HSPA Rel.7 Enhanced FACH, data rates can be increased beyond 1 Mbps in
Cell_FACH state without the latency of standard channel allocation to Cell_DCH
(Dedicated Channel) state
Number of blind repetition for HS cell FACH state (1-4) ?

HSUPA Happy Bit Ratio Measurement, cont.

Small Transmission Filtering in Use
Parameter is used to define filtering for Happy Bit -ratio measurement.
The target for filtering is to filter out small data bursts (such as ping) from Happy
Bit -ratio measurement as they do not give reliable information of UE allocation.
User Equipment Headroom (UPH) Threshold Filtering
Parameter defines threshold value for UE Power Headroom (UPH) values in
Happy Bit -ratio measurement.
UE sends to BTS a Happy Bit and Power Headroom information.
Happy Bits that are associated to UPH values that are below the defined
threshold, are not taken into account in Happy Bit -ratio measurement.
The target for filtering is to filter out power-limited situations from Happy Bit -ratio
measurement as they do not give reliable information of UE allocation.
4. HSUPA capacity sets
BTS processing set 1 supports capacity of 24 users and 5.8 Mbps throughput
(per BTS)
For each LCG, maximum with 1 FSM is 96 users (4 processing sets) and with 2
FSMs is 168 users (7 processing sets)

HSDPA Congestion Control
HSDPA Congestion Control Policy is an attribute which defines what kind of authority the
congestion control mechanism has over an individual SPI class.
Control all data. In a situation with risk of Iub congestion, the HSDPA CC mechanisms
are able to reduce the number of credits to zero.
This setting is intended for traffic without bit rate guarantees.
Control the data over GBR if GBR is defined. This means that in a situation with risk of
Iub congestion, the HSDPA CC mechanisms are able to reduce all the credits that exceed
GBR rates.
This setting is intended for traffic with bit rate guarantees. With this setting, it is also
possible to define similar behavior for NBR traffic, but this is not recommended.
No control over a SPI class. This means that HSDPA CC has no authority to reduce
credit of defined SPI class.

2. Resource reservation for non-NBR (nominal bit rate) connections allocates minimum
resources (0-80%) for best-effort users
