1. There are 500 students in our school and 100 are eligible for ESL/ELL program.
Among those students there are 4 different languages that are spoken. The
majority of the students at our school that are in our ESL program range from
stages 1 & 2 of English Language Development. There are 5 Grade levels in our
school, Grades Kindergarten through 4. Each grade level has 4 classrooms. Here
at Royal Elementary there are approximately 25 students in each classroom with
one teacher present.
In our school, we have 4 ESL teachers that will split their time between all grades
(K-4). The ESL teacher will take the ELL students during a part of Language Arts.

2. In our school, we have enough funding for 5 ESL teachers. We

decided it would benefit our students more if we only had 4 ESL
teachers actively in our school. That way we can use the salary of
the 5th teacher and use it toward resources as well as materials for
ESL students . We have two teachers that work with those
students who are in stage of 1 of English Language
Development .We also employed two other teachers who strictly
work with students in stage 2 of English Language Development.
The ELL teachers are responsible for providing the students with
proper resources in order to help them succeed in learning the
language.
Each week, the ESL teacher and classroom teacher will meet and
discuss ways to help their students grow.

3. The ELL students will be assigned

across the classroom based on their
language development. Students will
be tested during the summer to
determine their placement.
There are about 5 ELL students per
general education classroom.

4. Ideally, the parental involvement in our school would be

extremely high. We plan family events at the school once a month
and we also send home weekly news letters to inform not only the
parents but also the other family members of things going on in our
school.
We have a translator present in the office at all times. We also send
home the weekly news letter written in their respective language.
We offer tutoring programs with not only our students but also their
families to become more familiar with the English language to
make them apart of our Royal Family.

5. Here at Royal Elementary, we believe it is important to have an

English only classroom with the recourses necessary help master
our language.
It is important for us to have a blended family, and have our
students interact with each other on the same common ground.
Our hope is to have all of students speaking English by the time
they leave us!
