MAGAZINES (QUESTIONS 1-4)

1. What is a music magazine?

A music magazine is a magazine dedicated to music and music
culture.
Some magazines typically include music news, interviews, photo
shoots, essays, record reviews, concert reviews.
A music magazine also focuses on a specific genre of music . This
will include different gigs or interviews of musicians within the
certain genre.

2. What content
(text/copy/writing/articles/stories) would
you expect to find in a music magazine?
You would expect to see text relating to upcoming concerts
and interviews with popular artists.
The magazine could also contain information about latest
music events that the artists will attend.
The writing style would not really be formal as music is a
formal industry
The articles and stories may focus upon the artists upcoming
tour and could also be release of a new album. Also some
stories may be about their personal life.

3. What images would you expect to

find in a music magazine?
In a music magazine you would expect to find many different
images. This includes pictures of the artists aimed at the specific
genre. Other images may show concerts, studios and music events.
The main images usually show the main artist in a close up as this
shows there emotions and personality. They could also be medium
close ups because this will show the style of the artist, which appeals
to the target audience. Some other images show the location of
events that artists perform at, so audience knows where to go to see
there chosen artist.

that you would expect to find in all music
magazines.
The general features that I would expect to find in a music
magazine would be :
Consistent colour scheme
An organized design with a design grid
Modern design
Repeated design rules across the page
Relate to the genre of the magazine.
General layout, eg: pictures

6. Why are these features present on all of

the magazines? Why are they important?
The mastheads are on the magazine to firstly catch the target
audiences attention. Initially the masthead is there to attract
consumers to the magazine. They do this by making the masthead big
and bold. It is important as it attracts the audience and also tells you
what the magazine is about.
The main image are present on the magazines as allows the audience
to focus upon the picture of the artist. It is very important because it
shows the audience what the magazine is about and determines
whether they will purchase it based on the artist captured.
The cover lines are present on magazines because they give the
audience other content they can look at if they purchase the
magazine. This is important because it helps the audience to
understand of what the magazine is about and what it contains.

The colour scheme targets teenage girls
because it is very bright such as pink,
blue. People generally associate these
colours with this audience
Main image is one direction. This group
are very popular with this target
audience, which is young girls
The font and language used show who
the target audience is as its very funky
and gossipy. These are the features that
many teenage girls like and use.
