RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
DEFINITION
Is a series of organs responsible for taking in oxygen and
expelling carbon dioxide.
ORGANS INVOLVED
Nose, Mouth, Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Lung. The primary
organs of the respiratory system is lung.

FUNCTIONS

RESPIRATORY
SYSTEM

Nose : Inhale air into the body, and acting as fltration.

Mouth : mouth allows more inhalation, but the process doesnt undergo the fltration process
Pharynx : The human pharynx is conventionally divided into three sections: the nasopharynx, the
oropharynx and the laryngopharynx. It is also important in vocalization.
Larynx : involved in breathing, sound production, and protecting the trachea against food aspiration.
It manipulates pitch and volume. The larynx houses the vocal folds (vocal cords),
Trachea : to transport the air a person breathes in through his nose or mouth into the lungs
Lung : to extract oxygen from the atmosphere and transfer it into the bloodstream and to releasae
carbon dioxide from bloodstream into the atmosphere, in a process of gas exchange.
CERTAIN PROBLEM
Asthma is a chronic disease that causes inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes.

STUDY CASE
Ms. D, 28-year-old female referred for possible
immunodefciency. Patient presented with a shortness
of breath, chest tightness, and coughing, especially in
the previous 2 weeks. She arrived in ER, can breath in
her own. Her oral mucosa and lip condition is intact.
Her breath sound is wheezing.
