hence, there is no single correct
answer to them.

Example 1- Insulin delivery

A drug-delivery system implanted in the body uses an
open-loop system. The best solutions rely on
individually programmable, pocket-sized insulin
pumps that can deliver insulin according to a preset
time history. Design the open loop system.
Assume that the pump is driven by a variable speed
motor and a always fully open valve.

Example 1- Insulin delivery

Design a closed loop version of the same pump.
1. Control Goal: Design a system to regulate the blood
sugar concentration of a diabetic by controlled
dispensing of insulin.
2. Variable to Be Controlled : Blood glucose conc.
3. Control Design Specifications: Provide a blood
glucose level for the diabetic that closely
approximates (tracks) the glucose level of a healthy
person.

Example 2- Bike speed control


A biker needs to maintain the bike at a constant
speed. Represent this as a closed loop control
system problem and label what will be the
controller, actuator, the process and the sensor.

Example 3- Climate
control
Many luxury automobiles have thermostatically controlled airconditioning systems for the comfort of the passengers. Sketch a
block diagram of an air conditioning system where the driver sets
the desired interior temperature on a dashboard panel. Identify
the function of each element of the thermostatically controlled
cooling system.

Example 4- Inverted Pendulum

Consider the inverted pendulum shown
in Figure. Sketch the block diagram of a
feedback control system. Identify the
process, sensor, actuator, and controller.
The objective is keep the pendulum in
the upright position, that is to keep =
0, in the presence of disturbances.
