INTEREST
I read Screening Gender on Childrens Television: The Views of Producers around the World
by Dafna Lemish. The book hit on many issues that producers share over the way gender in
portrayed in their country and the efforts they are making to correct them.
I chose my topic in part because television in a global unifier. People all over watch television
and whether we are aware of it or not, it has and effect on us. I chose to focus on children
because what they are seeing on their T.V. screens becomes a big tool for helping them
understand the world around them and how to interpret it and themselves.

WORKING GOALS/ SPRING

ACTION PLAN
I plan on hosting an after school event, or planning an event with Riya. I also had the
idea to create a write up for a new childrens show.
From this topic I want to gain an understanding of how what we see on television
affects our way of thinking from a very young age and the effects it can have in the long
run.

MENTORS
Clements High School Mentor: I am looking to ask the psychology teacher, Mr. Ruben
because my topic deals with psychology. If he is no longer able to mentor people, I plan on
contacting a science teacher or the animation teacher.
Outside Mentor: I having been contacting multiple child psychologists, in particular those
who are specialized in analyzing child behavior. No one has yet to respond, but I know family
friend who is a child psychologist.

ANALYSIS
I mainly plan on doing independent study. I chose another book that further explains
televisions behavioral effect, without the focus solely being on the problems related to gender.
This also ties into my sources and potential subtopics. From the information gathered from
my book I have considered subtopics in areas related to gender, what needs to be shown on
television and what action is being taken to show these topics on television to children.
