of view of the narrator or speaker in a text.

Who is the narrator?

Before a reader can determine the


narrators point of view, the reader must
determine who the narrator is.

The narrator is the person telling the story.


The narrator controls everything the reader
knows about the characters and events.

Classifying Point of View-Who is narrating the story?

First Personnarrator is the character in


the story (I, me, my) [ex: Conquering Your
Fears]

Second Personnarrator speaks directly to


the reader (you) [ex: Eleven]

Classifying Point of View-Who is narrating the story?


When the narrator is not a character in the story:

Third Personnarrator tells about other characters


(he, she, it) [ex: Just Once & The Stone]

Third Person Limitednarrator tells about other


characters but only tells about the thoughts of one
character [ex: The Empty Pot]

Third Person Omniscientnarrator tells about


other characters and know about all of their thoughts
[ex: Maniac Magee]

Point of view is the perspective, attitude, or


opinion of the narrator/speaker in a text.
