It should be possible to determine the performance for given capacitance, speed and load conditions knowing
the parameters of the machine.
The analysis is complicated owing to the magnetic saturation in the machine and determination of Xm.
The frequency of SEIG is not similar to the utility grid as in case of GCIG but it generates its own frequency
depending upon the capacitance, machine parameters, prime mover speed and load conditions.
The Xm and F determination can be derived from the impedance loop by separating the real and imaginary
parts. It requires solution of simultaneous linear equations.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Results
The Xm and F values are comparatively smaller under no load.
The Xm and F values increases with increase in load and decreases with increase in capacitance.
Advantages of Fsolve Method over Newton Raphson Method
Much Faster technique
Comparatively accurate
Simpler algorithm
No requirement of Jacobian Matrix and its inverse calculation
No need for defining the Error and Maximum Iterations count
Advantages of Developed GUI
Comparative Analysis of two best techniques for Xm and F determination.
GUI ensures accurate and faster calculation for Xm and F being the base for SEIG analysis.
Entire calculation done on per unit basis.
Minimal technical skills required for Xm and F determination.
A complete package involving equivalent circuit details, related equations, NR and Fsolve developed
algorithms and NR and Fsolve MATLAB programs for industrial purposes.

Conclusion: Enhancing rotor resistance reduces terminal voltage and power output.
Thus, it is advantageous to use minimum possible value of rotor resistance in spite of
the fact that its impact is minor.

Conclusion: This parameter is not very sensitive for performance study and its impact is
also minor. For higher loads, the terminal voltage and power output are low for small
leakage reactance. For lighter loads, the terminal voltage and power output are high for
small leakage reactance. Thus leakage reactance must be optimally selected.

Conclusion: This parameter is very sensitive for performance study and it has high impact. The terminal
voltage and power output reduces with increase in the value of capacitive reactance which ultimately
means higher value capacitor needs to be employed since Xc = (1/jC). However, the designer must
select an optimum valued capacitor bank keeping the economy into consideration for the wanted
outcome.

Conclusion: Increase in value of Xm yields higher value of terminal voltage and power
output. This can be done by reduction of air gap or increasing the number of turns. This
impact of this parameter is quite pronounced. Higher values of X m must be selected for
design considerations.

Conclusion: Great emphasis has been paid lately for the application of SEIG for wind power plants. The
prime mover speed under such circumstances is continuously varying. Thus, it becomes essential to
determine the impact of speed on terminal voltage for design of suitable regulators. This parameter is
pretty sensitive for performance study and increase in speed results in higher value of terminal voltage
for the same power output. Thus, SEIG must be operated at higher speeds.

Conclusion: This parameter is directly related to the power output and is sensitive.
Higher values of power factor yields higher power output. This can be ensured by
providing more lagging VARs in the lines. This can be made possible by introduction
of higher value of capacitor banks which would also improve the terminal voltage.

BENEFITS
Advantages of Developed GUI
GUI ensures accurate and faster calculation for Is, Ir, IL, Vt, Pin and Pout.
The effect of all the parameters are integrated in a single window through Dropdown menu.
The effect of any parameters of the machine like Rs, Rr, Xl, Xc, Xm, v and p.f. on
the terminal voltage can be readily studied and precisely quantified.
Entire analysis done on a single machine, thus general analysis and assumptions for
entire system.
Entire calculation done on per unit basis.
Minimal technical skills required.
The PUBLISH REPORT block will develop a detailed report in a pdf format for the
test conducted.
User-friendly tool-box.
Could be developed into an executable file on the desktop through deployment.
Thus, serving as a SOFTWARE for Performance study of SEIG without the need of
MATLAB.

Per unit value of a quantity is defined as the ratio of actual value of the quantity to the base
value. It ensures simpler way of calculation as compared to rigorous actual value
calculation.
Mathematically, Apu
