CONTRIBUTION TO LEARNING
Out-of-classroom
learning
makes
a
unique
contribution to a childs education, and offers many
varied benefits to them, not least developing a sense
of place and wonder for the world around them. By
taking part in these experiences throughout
their time at school, children learn lessons
that complement those taught within the
classroom. At the same time, they also have fun
and get some exercise in the fresh air.
outdoor learning enriches the curriculum and
can improve educational attainment, as well.

OBSTACLES
Many teachers are still reluctant to offer opportunities for
learning outside the classroom.
The increasing policy shift in emphasis away from creative
subjects such as art and music and towards subjects such as
maths, and portuguese language hinders some attempts to
take children on trips outside the classroom.
Many teachers feel that it is difficult to justify trips that arent
mapped on to a particular curriculum requirement.
learning outside the classroom is still redundant due to:
funding cuts; aging teacher workforce; parental/school
reluctance and an increased policy emphasis on passing
exams and meeting targets.
There is too much focus on assessment and not enough
on education.

OUR EXAMPLE
Some teachers are aware of the cross-curricular
benefits of school trips and outdoor
experiments and prove that it can not only
enrich the curriculum but also improve
educational attainment.

SCIENCE OUTDOORS
Planting native trees, to commemorate
the Day of Indigenous Forest . Our
country has been invaded by exotic
species not adapted to our climate, such
as eucalyptus and pine. Campaigns were
made to plant trees of native species,
such as oak, ash and holly.

The seeds were planted

in the school playground
by students of 5th grade.

VISIT TO LOCAL HISTORIC ATTRACTION

Replica of a Portuguese Nao built in the
15th century. It is a very entertaining way
to show life aboard one of the ships that
travelled to India during the 15th century.

PEACE RUN

PEACE RUN

PEACE RUN

Peace does not mean the

absence of war, peace
means the presence of
harmony, love, satisfaction
and oneness. Peace means
a flood of love in the world

CONCLUSION
Out-of-classroom
learning
offers
fantastic opportunities and rewards
to both children and teachers alike. It
provides many benefits in terms of fun,
enjoyment,
personal
development,
motivation and even increased subject
performance and it develops skills and
self-confidence that can be applied later in
their life.
